On Thursday, Sept 24, 2009, Colin and I travelled from Munich to Zurich on our first eurorail journey. We used our railway pass but didn't realize that we needed an extra ticket because we were leaving Germany and going to Austria before we arrived in Switzerland (our railpass is valid for Germany, Switzerland and Italy). It cost $18.40 euros for two tickets through Austria. It was really cool because the train went one direction all the way to Austria and then we started going backwards (to me, depending where you're sitting) all the way to Zurich. We sat next to a lady from St. Gullen who did the same Trans-Siberian trip that we're doing. She lost her husband in 2003 on the train because he was taking pictures and missed getting back on the train. She didn't see him again until Bejing. Colin and I will ensure we don't get separated. We started talking about the train because she noticed that I was reading a book about the Trans-Siberian.
