London Flake

Okay, I may just be jet-lagged and I just had a relaxing shower, but I swear the floor in our homestay place is moving. It feels a bit like a boat rising up and down in the waves. It's also interesting because the taps are separate hot and cold taps and the toilet is in a separate room all by itself. The shower and sinks are in another room. We're on the top floor next to our hosts' bedroom. It's really cool because we lock our room door with a skeleton key each time we go out.

Our homestay people are really nice and they are at a concert right now. There is also an Italian couple and a girl from Spain staying here too. Both of them are learning English. We are hoping to talk to them more tomorrow. Our hosts have 3 rooms that the rent out. We'll be staying with them for the next 2 weeks.

Our plane landed at 1:30 PM in the Heathrow airport (which is 6:30 AM Edmonton time) and after 2 hours of taking various trains through the city we arrived at our homestay house at 5:30 PM. We had one mishap where we got off the train to catch a different line and that line was closed for renos today so we got back on the same train, but the doors closed before I could cut through the crowd and get on. We tested out our plan and I met Colin and the next stop which was the Piccadilly Circus. I only had to wait 2 minutes for the next train to come, so I didn't have time to panic too much. We managed not to lose each other for the rest of the day.

We tried out our first London Pub for supper around 7:00 PM and went to the Honor Oak down the block. We had 2 Beck's beers, fish and chips, and haddock and salmon cakes. It was neat because the pub was decorated with pictures of my Little Pony and Barbie dolls. It was neat to see children eating in the pub with their parents and there was even a toy section for kids. Very cool.

After supper, we stopped in a grocery store so Colin could try a Cadbury Flake. They are one of my favourite chocolate bars. I haven't had one since Angeline brought a case back from London when she was here for a band field trip. I think I was about 12 at the time. The flake tastes like an Aero but in a thicker flakier melt in your mouth form. So delicious. Well it's 11:20 PM which is late enough for me with only 6 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours. Goodnight Edmonton even though it's only 4:20 PM there. Ahh time zones.
