Luzern Old Town Tour

We are enjoying Luzern much better than Zurich because the food is much more affordable. However, everywhere we have been so far has had very affordable Swiss chocolate. Once a Swiss chocolate bar has been opened, it's really difficult not to finish it. The quality of the chocolate is so addictive. We've tried Camilee Bloch and had a torino caramel truffle filled bar, Ovomaltine, and Cailler Air which was similar to an Aero but better. Colin also had a white chocolate bar with the truffle filling ((Giandino) and of course we had Lindt too.

We visited the Dying Lion and my devil ducks were so sad when they saw the Lion that they died too. The dying Lion was built in memory of the 700 Swiss mercenaries that died in the Tuileries in 1792. We sat and watched many bus loads of tourists visit the lion. It was great for us because we learned all the details about the Lion for free.

The Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrucke) is a lovely wooden bridge that has 112 pictures of Swiss history under the eaves. Part of the bridge burned down in 1993 destroying some of the original paintings, but the bridge was rebuilt.

The Spreuer Bridge is another old wooden bridge that has 67 painting under the eaves. They date from 1626 to 1635 and represent a "Dance of Death."

Luzern is a duckaholics dream town. I found a store that was a duck haven. They had so many ducks that I didn't have, so it made if tough to choose, but I bought the two on the left because they are small to carry around with us for 4 months.

You can see our other 58 pictures of the ducks and the town here. In case you're wondering where Colin is sleeping and why I am not in the same room it's because we were couchsurfing for our third time. I slept on our hosts couch and Colin slept in the single bed in the guest room.
