Friend/Relationship

Artist Statement:

This photo is of my brother and my dog. They were playing around my backyard. I used my Canon camera to take this photo. I chose to take this photo because I liked how they were so close and it was a pure moment. This photo has the elements and principles of line, because of the lines all around in the border; shape, because the photo and border have shapes; value, because there is a darker set range of value; space, because I utilized the space in the border; and movement, because I think the doodles in the border show movement.

This photo shows the composition rules/techniques of rule of thirds, because my brother and dog's heads are both in the required spots; informal balance, because there seems to be a balance, although there techniqally isn't; and soft focus, because there is a blurry look to it. I took multiple photos of him and my dog, trying to get the right shot, and I decided upon this one because I thought it was the best one out of them. Originally, I was going to use oil paint pens on the print itself, but then just decided to use sharpie markers on the border to extend it because I liked the thought of it. I think it turned out pretty good overall.

This photo's story is that I was outside hanging out with my family and then I just thought it was a good shot. It means something to me because she is my favorite pet and he's a pretty cool brother. If I could change something about this print, I would get rid og the swirls around the edge of the actual photo. I don't really like them. I would also add more vines and flowers.
