Wire Cube

Wire Bottle Sculpture

Artist Statement:

The first sculpture is a cube, which I was assigned to create to get a grip on how to make a wire sculpture. The second sculpture is of a wine bottle. To create these pieces, I used wire cutters, needle nose pliers, 18 gauge wire, 28 gauge wire, and masking tape. I used the fish hook technique, which is where you create a fish hook-like shape with the needle nose pliers on two different pieces of wire, and connect them to make a chain-like design. I chose to create a bottle, because I liked the shape of it. I was going to put somehthing inside of it to make it more interesting, but I never got a chance to. In this piece, there are some elements and principles. One element present, is shape, because both sculptures have shape.

When deciding what to sculpt, I originally wanted to create a wooden manniquin, but I changed my mind last minute. A lot of the hooks I made weren't perfect, and made the sculpture fall down, so I had to fix and straighten them out.

If I could create this art again, or change it up, I would add something inside the bottle. I would also take more time on it.
