Artist Statement:
The setting of my piece is in the woods. I tried to create this abstract piece and make something out of it. I created this piece using colored pencils, Sharpie, and some watercolor crayon. I chose to create this abstract piece because it started out with blind contour drawings, which didn't look all that great, so I decided to add more randomly placed squiggles, lines, circles, and miscellaneous shapes to create this abstract piece. The elements and principles I used were line, shape, and color.. I used line when creating random lines throughout the paper, shape when creating shapes on my paper, and color after I added color in all the shapes.
One composition rule/technique I used was leading lines, because all of the lines I created, show different shapes and colors, and lead them to each other. For this project, I changed what I was going to do with the piece, because I was originally going to just draw circles all over the page, but then later decided that I would make other shapes too.
The story behind my piece is that there is a bird flying down from it's nest full of eggs in a tree, while nearby a boy does cartwheels in puddles. This project relates to my life because I love weird and unique things, like this. If I could change one thing about this piece, t would be to color in every white space, because even the little tiny spots bother me.
