Artist Statement:

The subject of this piece, is an alien princess doing jumping jacks on her bed. The setting is in space, because her bed is also a space ship. To create this piece, I used pencil to sketch out the basic shapes, then a fine tipped marker to make final shapes sharper. I then colored in the space ship and alien with colored pencils, and used watercolor perncils to create the galaxy in the back. I also used colored and watercolored pencils to create the planets in the background. I used a silver metallic Sharpie to create the stars and add silver details to the moon. In this piece I used the element of shape when I created the shapes of the planets, ship, and such. I also used the element of color, because I used color to add detail and interest. I think I also used the element of texture when I created the background.

I think I used the composition rule/technique of framing, because the planets kind of surround the ship in a framing way. When I was creating this piece, I originally was just going to draw an alien in a regular room, but then I thought about creating a galaxy, and then thought of making a UFO floating in space.

There is meaning behind this work, because I like space, planets, and things like that, and I thought it would be cool to create a galaxy. If I had a chance to change this piece, I would blend the galaxy more, and make it darker. I would also add more stars and such.
