Written Reflection:
In 2D Design, my favorite projects were the Circle Project, Macro Leaf, Self Portrait, and Duck Stamp. I liked the Circle Project because acrylic paint is fun to work with and I really liked making the octopus. I also liked doing the ocean background because I made a lot of different coral which was fun. I liked the Macro Leaf Project because it was fun to do an observational drawing rather than gridding and other techniques. I always enjoy working with oil pastel too because you can blend with your hands. I liked the self portrait project too because it was fun cutting up the different photos and arranging them in a different way. I liked the Duck Stamp Project too, even though it didn't come out how I really wanted, I like using the colored pencils.
In this class I struggled with deadlines and making enough time to complete projects. I had many times where I rushed my work just to get it in by the due date. I also learned a lot in this class. I learned that it's good to try different shapes and sizes of pieces, and to use new types of materials. I discovered bristol paper, which is now my favorite to use. I also used markers a lot which I hadn't done before. I expirimented with paper cutting too. I layered cut paper for the Stars & Stripes project, and for the Find Your Voice project I used many different types of paper and made a face and background with them. I also cut up different reference photos for my self portrait to make a college to draw rather than just a regular photo. I learned that projects won't always be easy, because I had a hard time completing my Stars & Stripes project, and it took quite a while for me to get it how I wanted it.
Throughout this class I noticed I had improved quite a bit since Foundations of Art last year. Especially when I looked at my self portrait from this year compared to last year's. I did a way better job with value this year, and actually had a bigger range. I also improved in my colored pencil skills, because when you look at my Beautiful Oops from the beginning of the year, and compare it to my Duck Stamp at the end of the semester, there is visable improvement in blending and overall neatness.
In the future, I can improve by taking more time on my work, because I usually don't manage my time, and have a hard time prioritizing certain things. I could also improve my material decisions, and use different types to get a feel of other medias and such. I want to also make bigger works, because I usually stick to smaller sizes. I want to start improving my highlighting and shadowing skills, because I have always had a hard time with that.
