Cyanotype

Artist Statement:

This photo is of the Dead River (I think) in the Wesk Forks up near Jackman. I used my iPhone to take the photo. This photo contains the elements and principles of line, because the trees and clouds have lines; shape, because almost everything has a shape in the photo; color, because the fabric I printed on was the color blue; value, because there is a full range of value in this photo; texture, because the river and rocks create texture; and movement, because the river was moving in this photo.

This piece has the composition rules/techniques of silhouette lighting, because the trees are all silhouettes; grouping, because the clouds are grouped; and high horizon line, because the horizon is high. The process we used to create these cyanotypes was actually really cool. I liked the fact that we used the sun to expose these prints because it was cool.

This photo is one of my favorites, because I love the place it was taken in, and I have so many memories there and in that river. I really love the sunset in the photo. If I could change one thing about this photo, it would be the brightness. I would darken it because I like dark photos.
