Duck Stamp Project

Artist Statement:

The subject of this piece is a Northern Pintail Duck and the setting is in a lake during sunset. To create this piece I used colored pencils, graphite and an ink pen on bristol paper. This piece contains the elements and principles of shape, because the duck is made of shapes; color because the sunset has a lot of color; texture, because I think the water looks like it has texture; emphasis because I think the way the water ripples are they kind of emphasize the duck and movement, because the water looks like it's moving.

I think I used the composition rule/technique of high horizon line because the horizon is up higher. For this project I was originally going to do a whole family of ducks with a male, female and babies but later changed my mind.

This piece was fun to make because I never really use colored pencils and it was nice to figure them out and expiriment. This project relates to my life because I love animals and nature in general. If I could make this piece any stronger, I would blend everything a little more, and add more detail to the ducks face/head.
