Artist Statement:

The subject of this photo is a shadow from a table casting onto a chair. The setting is in the Library at my school. I used my Canon camera to take this picture and the Photos app on my laptop to edit it. I chose to take this photo because I liked the interesting shadow. I used the elements/principles of line, because the shadow created a line; shape, because the shadow is made up of many small circles; texture, because the way the shadow is kind of makes it look textured; movement, because it looks like its moving when you look at it certain ways; and pattern, because the circles create a patterened look.

I used the composition rules/techniques of grouping, because the circles are all grouped together; and sharp focus because the photo is pretty clear. Originally, the photo was lighter, and I wanted the shadow to be darker, so I darkened the image. I also cropped it a little to get unimportant background things out.

The story behind this image is that I went to school one morning and the Library was empty other than me and the Librarian. She was saying that she was going to leave the lights off for a little, because she liked the way the sun looked. I then told her that that worked out good, because I had an assignment that I needed shadows for. She helped me find this shadow, which I really liked and it woked out perfect. If I could improve anything about this photo, I would try to darken the shadow even more.
