Complementary Colors

Artist Statement:

This image is of the book I was reading at the time, (IT by Stephen King) and my arm over the bottom half of it. The setting is on my bed in my room. I used my Canon camera with its flash on to take this photo. I positioned my hand over the bottom of the book covering the rest of the cover because it was kind of disrupting to the complementry colors I was going for. I used the elements/principles of shape, because the letters I and T are shapes, along with the book itself; color, because I made the whole photo black and white other than the red letters and green sweatshirt; value, because the black and white part has different shades of value; texture, because the book cover has some texture, along with the sweatshirt; and emhasis, because the brightness of the letters make it pop.

This photo contains the following composition rules/techniques of: rule of thirds, because the arm of the sweatshirt is on the required placed for the rule; leading lines, because the hand underneath kind of underlines the letters; and low key lighting because it is darker lighting. This photo took many trys to get right, because I couldn't get the right angle and position. It was also pretty difficult to edit. I had a hard time using the editing on Photoshop.

This photo is of one of my mom's favorite books, and I am reading it now, so it is meaningful. If I could change something about this photo I would take more time on the Photoshop editing and make the sweatshirt more detailed because it kind of cuts off in a way.
