Artist Statement:

The subject of this photo is my hand and the setting is in a dark room. I used three spotlights and my Canon camera to make this image and I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 14 to edit it. I chose to create this image because I like taking dark photos, and I liked the look of the shadows in the room I was in, so I took advantage of it. I used the elements/principles of shape, because of the shape of my hand; value, because the different shades of grey present; emphasis, because the light hand seems emphasized in the dark room; and unity, because it's just the hand on it's own with nothing else to it.

This image contains the composition rule/technique of rule of thirds because my hand was in the required position for that rule. Originally, I was going to take a more close up picture, but decided to not. I also was going to keep it in color but thought the black and white would make it more dramatic. This photo relates to my concentration, because it is of my hand, which is a natural form.

This image is of my hand, which I use to do almost everything, so obviously it's important. I like this photo because it is dramatic and dark. I like dark things and it's extremely aesthetically pleasing to me. If I could change something about this photo I would make it so my finger goes off the top of the photo a little bit.
