Paper Sculpture

Artist Statement:

This is a sculpture I created using only one piece of paper (a left over poster) and adhesive. We were asked to take an emotion and somehow turn it into a sculpture. I used the emotion of boredom, because that's what described my last semester of school. I used the elements/principles of shape, because it is a cube with other things on it; space, because it takes up literal space; and pattern because I think the cuts in the side of it create a patternish look.

I used the composition rule/technique of leading lines because the cuts in the side kind of lead a straight line through the middle. Originally, I was going to do something more messy/sloppy looking for this project to show a lazy bored feel, but then scratched that and made this instead.

This project has some of my favorite colors and the paper I used kind of makes it look painted on, and I love painting so that's how it relates to my life. If I could make this piece any stronger then I would make it more crisp and smooth rather than the sloppy-ish way it is now.
