Artist Statement:

The subject of this piece is some flowers in my windows sill with a sheer black curtain in front of them. The setting is in my dining room and I used my Canon camera and a chair to prop my hands up to take this photo. I chose to take this picture because I liked the way the dark curtain tinted the light colored flowers. This photo has the elements and principles of line, because the curtain and snow in the background are lines; shape, because the curtain and the flower petals; color, because the flowers; texture, because the amount of petals there are gives it a texture; balance, because the photo seems slightly balanced; and emphasis, because I think the fact that the only color in this photo is pink gives an emphasis on it.

This piece contains the composition rules/techniques of rule of thirds, because the flowers are in the required positions; soft focus, because it is slightly blurry; and high horizon line, because the snow in the background is higher. It took a lot of shots to get this photo perfect, because the lighting wasn't good at all. I liked this photo though, and I think the cropping and edits I did made it way better.

This photo is of some flowers my mom got for Valentine's Day, so it also kind of goes with the lsat assignment I did; what is love? because it shows love from my mom's boyfriend to her. I like the darkness the curtain created and the filter like look it gives. If I could change this and make it stronger I would make it so the flowers behind the curtain were just a silhouette because I think that would be cool. This photo relates to my concentration because it is of flowers and has snow in the back (both natural and organic).
