Artist Statement:
This piece was made with a couple different materials, which were the following: A full range of value in graphite pencils, ink, and colored pencils. First, I sketched the drawing out and then I filled in the value according to the photo. I used a couple of elements and principles in this piece, such as line, because I used gridding to create this whole piece, shape, because throughout the whole piece I used shapes, and value, because I used it on my face and hair.
In this piece, I also think I used one composition rule/technique, being rule of thirds, because my face is sort of off to the side, and not in the complete center. When making this project, it was very difficult to get the value to match the original photo completely, so I had to erase and re blend a lot. I was originally going to use charcoal on the sweater and glasses, but later changed my mind, thinking it would be easier to use ink.
If this piece could be stronger, I would fix up the pizza and make it more crisp looking. I would also make my face a little darker, because it seems to light compared to the photo.
