Artist Statement:
The subject of this piece is the word glasses. I used graphite pencil, colored pencils, and marker to create this piece. This piece contains the element of shape, because the letters of the word glasses, and made up of different shaped glasses. I also used the element of color because the glasses are different colors. This piece is composed of different glasses that look like the word glasses.
In this piece, I believe I used the composition rule/technique of framing, because I used an arm of a pair of glasses to underline the word glasses, and it kind of frames the word, though it's only on one out of four sides. Originally, I was going to make a whole background of glasses and create the word glasses out of negative space in that, but I didn't have enough time to do that.
In class, all students wrote a noun on a piece of paper and then at random we each picked one out and were assigned to create the write the word and incorporate the noun into it somehow. This project relates to my life, because I wear glasses, and I used my glasses to create some of the letters. If I could do something to make this piece better, I would cut it so it goes off the border a little, and I would add something to the background too.
