Organic Forms and Textures

Artist Statement:

The subject of this photo is my dog, and the setting is in my living room. I used my dog and my Canon camera to take this photo. I chose to take this photo because she has an interesting fur texture and color. I used the elements/principles of color, because her fur is a redish fawn color; value, because the different shadows and highlights show the difference between pieces of fur; texture, because there is obviously the look of it from the amout of fur she has; and movement, because the way her fur flows looks like its moving.

I used the composition rules/techniques of informal balance, because there is sort of a balanced feel to it, although it isn't technically balanced, and sharp focus, because it is really focused well. Originally, for this project I planned on taking a photo of wood or bark, but then realized my dog had a cool organic texture and used her instead.

The meaning behind this image is that it is of my dog, and she is important to me. If I could make this image any stronger, I would add something else to it, maybe something that would mix up the shadows and highlights. This photo relates to my concentration because it is of my dog's natural fur, and it has a organic looking texture/feel.
