Self Portrait

Artist Statement:

This is a self portrait I created using graphite and ink pen. I used the elements and principles of line, because I used lines to cut up different pieces of my face; shape, because I made different shapes out of different photos; value, because I used the graphite and pen to create a range of value from light to dark; and pattern because the way the shapes are arranged make it seem like one.

In this piece I used the composition rule/technique of leading lines, because the different lines throughout it lead to different spots in the drawing. Originally, for this project I planned on doing it in color with my signitures, but later changed it to what I created.

This piece relates to my life because it is of me. If I could change anything about this piece, I would do the hair over and pay more attention to the detail of it.
