Analogous Color

Original Photo

Artist Statement:

The subject of this photo is a plant in the library. I used my iPhone 7 and natural light to take this photo. I like the texture of the plants and the carpet and they were similar colors. I used the elements/principles of line, because the carpet in the background has lines throughout it; shape, because the leaves and carpet are all shapes; color, because there are green, yellow, and blue colors; texture, because the leaves and carpet have different feels; and emphasis, because the leaves seem like they're popping due to the shadows.

I used the following composition rules/techniques of: rule of thirds, because the plant is in that position; selective focus, because the plant is in focus and the background is blurry; and leading lines, because the background is composed of many different lines leading different ways. This photo took a couple of takes to get just right, and I don't think it turned out exactly how I wanted it. I wanted it to be even looking so that took some cropping.

This photo was taken in the library, and I love hanging out in there, so its important. I really like the shadows on the leaves. If I could change something about this photo it would be the background. I would make it so that the colors were more analogous than they are in this photo. This photo relates to my concentration, because it has natural and organic leaves in it.
