Portrait

Artist Statement:

The subject of this image is me, and the setting is in the light room in the art room. I used my iPhone 7 to take this picture and I used some overhead lights to brighten the photo. I used the elements and principles of line, because the diamonds create line; shape, because the diamonds are obviously shapes; color, because there is half color half not; value, because the black and white portion has nice value; texture; because I think my hair seems textured; contrast, because of the different colors/filters; and pattern because the diamonds create a pattern.

This piece contains the following composition rules/techniques: informal balance, because there seems to be a balance but it isn't quite intenional; leading lines, because the lines the diamonds create lead to different parts of the photo, and framing, because the diamonds seem to kind of frame my face, in a way. This photo took many trys to get how I wanted it to be. I had to use many different techniques to become this final image.

This project relates to my life because it is a phot of me. If I could chnage one thing about this photo, it would be the fact that one of the diamonds is on my whole face. I wish that it was only half because I feel like it looks weird this way.
