Social/Political Response Prints

Artist Statement:

The setting of these prints is a polluted ocean, and the subject is the dead dolphin. When creating these prints, I used a gelatin block and yellow and blue ink to make the background, a linoleum block with black ink for the foreground, and I extended the prints with watercolor. This piece contains elements and priciples such as line, since the ink parts are mostly straight lines, color, since there is obviously color, and also texture, because the linoleum print made it have one.

When creating this piece, it was mildly difficult to pick the issue I wanted to adress, since there are so many I'm passionate about. It was also difficult to figure out what I wanted to do to extend the piece. When carving the linoleum block, I had a hard time getting the carvings deep enough to print well, so I had to re-carve them a lot, to get them right.

This artwork means a lot to me, it shows how the ocean is a beautiful place from atop, but when you look underwater, it could be the oposite. These prints specifically focus on water pollution, and how plastic bags are very dangerous to marine life. I am really passionate about the plastic bag issue going on, and I believe that they should be banned everywhere. If these prints could be made stronger, I would add more to the extensions.
