What is Love?

Artist Statement:

The subject of this picture is my dog, Della. The setting is on my front porch, and I used my Canon camera to take this photo. To answer the question, what is love?, I kind of took my own take on it, and took a photo of someone I love. I chose my dog because she means a lot to me. This photo contains the elements and principles of line, because there are lines on the door in the back; shape, because there are shapes on the door as well; color, because the door is a blueish grey, and my dog is tan; texture, because my dog's fur and the scratches on the door; and unity, because it is pleasing to me.

This photo has the composition rules/techniques of rule of thirds, because where my dog is is applicable to that rule, and soft focus because it is slightly blurry. It was actually quite hard to get this photo, because my dog wouldn't stay still at all. For this assignment I was originally going to take a photo of a couple that I know, but I couldn't get the right photo, so I decided on my dog.

We got my dog from my grandfather after he passed away, so she means a lot to me because he loved her so much. If I could change this photo at all, I would make it so the rectangle on the door in the background framed my dog better and more centered. This photo relates to my concentration because it is of my dog and she has natural fur with texture.
