Artist Statement:
This photo is of a peace sign I created with a ten second exposure on the camera and a sparkler. The setting is in my drivway at night-ish. I used my Canon camera at a 10 second exposure time, and a lighter and a spakler. I chose to create this image, because I liked the way circles looked in others' pieces, and I wanted to do something like that with a twist. I decided to create a peace sign. I used the elements and principles of line, because the sign is a line; shape, because the sign is also a shape; color, because the sign is a fiery color; texture, because the sparks seem textured; contrast, because the sparkler kind of contrasts the background; movement, because it seems like the sparkler is moving; and unity, because it just seems like boom.
This piece contains the composition rules/techniques of: rule of thirds, because the peace sign is in the spot; soft focus, because it seems soft due to the sparklers view; and high horizon line, because the horizon is higher. Originally, I attempted doing the steel wool spark technique, but it wouldn't stay lit for a long period of time like I needed. I found some sparklers and used them instead.
This image goes along with the enough is enough campaign/movement. I wish for there to be peace in this world, so this shows my want. If this could be any stronger, I would get rid of my feet and legs, and add to the background.
