Scratchboard

Artist Statement:

The subject of this piece is my cat, Freddie. This piece is scratchboard, and I used scratching tools to scratch it out. I chose to create this piece because I love my cat, and this photo is one of my favorite photos I've ever taken. This piece has a couple of elements and principles, one being value, because I used the scratching tools to create different shades of grey. I also used texture when I scratched the fur, because the scratching tool scratches deep.

While creating this piece, I never really needed to change or revise anything. I did mess up a couple of times though, accidently going out of the lines.

This piece is of my cat, Freddie which we rescued from a shelter. He means a lot to me, so that's why I created it. If I could change this piece and make it any stronger, than I wouldclean up the border.
