Updated Covid Information
The recent announcement to the changes in how schools use RATs as a surveillance measure against COVID-19 means that students and staff will only need to test if they are displaying COVID-19 symptoms.
From Monday 28 February we will move to symptomatic testing. Tests are to be used at your discretion such as if your child is displaying COVID-19 symptoms. For our school, this means:
8 tests per student and staff in school
Beyond that students and staff can access PCR tests or purchase RATs directly.
Our school will continue to ensure our core COVID-smart layers are in place, including vaccinations, physical distancing where possible, maximised fresh air flow through natural ventilation, continued good hand hygiene practices and enhanced cleaning.
If a student or staff member receives a positive RAT result, they need to:
record the positive RAT result through the Service NSW websiteExternal link or Service NSW appExternal link and please include the name of your child’s school when prompted
notify the school of the positive RAT or PCR result as soon as possible
follow NSW Health advice to isolate for 7 days.
Registering your child’s positive RAT with Service NSW is a requirement of the Public Health Order and helps NSW Health track COVID-19 in schools and address any public health issues early on if required.
Negative results do not need to be reported to Service NSW or to the school.
Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative and they are displaying no symptoms OR they are diagnosed as another condition such as hayfever, the student or staff member can return to school.
In NSW, positive COVID-19 cases are provided a Medical Clearance Notice after 7 days and allowed to leave self-isolation as long as they do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
For further information refer to the NSW Government’s Rapid antigen testing fact sheetExternal link.
Under the close contact rules, schools are no longer included in contact tracing. I will inform the school community when there is a positive case in our school and advise families on public health advice, including monitoring for symptoms.
We strongly encourage our students and their families to consider vaccination including boosters when eligible. Find a vaccination clinic to book an appointment near you.
Thank you again for your continued support during this school term.

You and Me: Our Place. Students used their five senses to imagine what it would be like to be on the same beach as Uncle Tobias. They put their sentences into a paragraph. Using their wonderful art skills they created a seaside picture to enhance their writing.
The students in the Yarrunga reading group have read the book Somebody's Land by Adam Goodes and Ellie Laing. They then wrote an information report based on the book and other books they have read.
When the white people came they took children away from their family.
They took kids to a different Country.
They took children to schools so they could learn.
When the white people came they cut down trees and built sites.
They did stuff different and disrespected the indigenous people.

For thousands and thousands of years lndigenous people have lived in the land we now call Australia. When the white people came they called the land Terra Nullius. The white people took the lndigenous kids away and the lndigenous mums and dads were sad.
By Zali
When the white people came they called the land Terra Nullius. Terra Nullius means nobody's land. They called it nobody's land because the white men wanted the land.
They wanted the land to build places for white people to live. Then the white people destroyed the Indigenous peoples houses.
After a while the Indigenous people had to start moving out of their Country.
When the white people came they took the children away.
They put the children into school so they could read and write and thought the white way was better.
The kids and Mums and Dads were very sad.
When the white people came they pushed the Indigenous people out to work at farms.
The Indigenous people were not happy working for the white people so they protested.
They stopped working for the white people and went their own way.
By Scarlett
When the white people came they called the land Terra Nullius. They said it was nobody's land. But it was the black peoples land. Before the white people came they were very happy. Once the white people came the black people were sad because the white people were destroying their homes and some of the black people had to move to a different Country.
By Shelby
When the white men came they treated the Indegenous people badly.
The white men took the Indegenous people's houses away that they made and took their land away.
The white men thought that there were no Indegenous people on the land so the white men called the land Terra Nullius which means nobody`s land.
By Ciara
The indigenous people have lived on this land we now call Australia for thousands and thousands of years.
When the white people came they destroyed everything that the black people had owned and made.
When the white people came they made brick houses and cut down the trees to make materials and most of the black people died.
YEARS AND YEARS LATER WE SAY SORRY
By Dious
The white people came they said it was nobody's land but it was
somebody's land. So the white people took the children and they put them in a school so they can learn white people's ways.
Aboriginal people had a very good time when their kids were not gone. They had so much fun with their family. They went fishing. They made their own houses and drank from coconuts.

WHEN CAPTAIN COOK CAME TO AUSTRALIA HE CALLED THE LAND TERRA NULLIUS HE SAID THAT IT WAS NOBODY’S LAND BUT IT WAS SOMEBODY'S LAND.
By Eli
For thousands and thousands of years indigenous people lived in the country we now call Australia. When the white people came they called the land Terra Nullius. They said it was nobody's land but it was somebody's land- it was indigenous land. They cared about the rivers and seas. They cared for each other. The white men took the children away which made them very very sad. Thousands and thousands of children were taken away.
By Ruby W
When the white people came they cleared all the land and the bushes and plants. The animals didn't have anywhere to live and because they didn't have anywhere to live some of them died.
When they died the Indigenous people did not have anything to eat and some of them also died.
