Dear parents and carers
Book Week
This week we will celebrate Book Week on Thursday 25 August. The Mulwala Pre School students will join our students at 11:30 to participate in Book Week activities based on the shortlisted books from the Children’s Book Council of Australia. The Book Week theme this year is Dreaming with Your Eyes Open. Students are encouraged to dress in their favourite book character, using lots of imagination.
SRC Father's Day stall
The SRC students will hold a Father’s Day Stall on Friday 2 September in the school library. The students from all classes will have an opportunity to buy a gift for their father or male family member at lunchtime on Friday. The price of the gifts range from $1 to $10. The SRC students would like to wish all, a very happy Father’s Day.
P&C KiteFest
The P&C is holding the inaugural Mulwala KiteFest on Sunday 11 September from 9 am- 1 pm. Please support the P&C's major fundraising event. The P&C will require many volunteers to make this a success. Please complete the form on School eNews to indicate when you can assist.
Permission notes
All permission notes are distributed to parents via the School eNews app and email system (unless notes are for individual students). Please ensure you are accessing this communication regularly, so your child does not miss any events. The school sends reminders to parents via Class Dojo is a note has not been signed. Unfortunately, students are unable to attend extra-curriuclar events and excursions without parental permission.
Cold Weather
I encourage all students to wear a jumper at school during this cold weather. Students are reminded to put their jumpers in their bags once they take them off. Please ensure all jumpers are labeled with your child's name.
Lost Property
There are hundreds of dollars worth of lost property belonging to students at school, which is unnamed. This consists of clothing and drink bottles. Please ask your child to look in the lost property baskets to retrieve their items.
Updated Covid Information
The recent announcement to the changes in how schools use RATs as a surveillance measure against COVID-19 means that students and staff will only need to test if they are displaying COVID-19 symptoms. If you require more RAT kits please contact the school.
Our school will continue to ensure our core COVID-smart layers are in place, including vaccinations, physical distancing where possible, maximised fresh air flow through natural ventilation, continued good hand hygiene practices and enhanced cleaning.
If a student or staff member receives a positive RAT result, they need to:
record the positive RAT result through the Service NSW website or Service NSW app and please include the name of your child’s school when prompted
notify the school of the positive RAT or PCR result as soon as possible
follow NSW Health advice to isolate for 7 days.
Registering your child’s positive RAT with Service NSW is a requirement of the Public Health Order and helps NSW Health track COVID-19 in schools and address any public health issues early on if required.
Negative results do not need to be reported to Service NSW or to the school.
Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative and they are displaying no symptoms OR they are diagnosed as another condition such as hayfever, the student or staff member can return to school.
In NSW, positive COVID-19 cases are provided a Medical Clearance Notice after 7 days and allowed to leave self-isolation as long as they do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
For further information refer to the NSW Government’s Rapid antigen testing fact sheetExternal link.
The announcement to ease the isolation requirements for close contacts was made on 20 April 2022. This will enable students and staff who are close contacts and have no symptoms to continue to attend school if they follow guidelines agreed with NSW Health.
Note that staff and students who have had confirmed COVID-19 in the last 12 weeks do not have to comply with the following guidelines if they become a household or close contact and are not required to self-isolate or test unless they develop new COVID-19 symptoms.
Close contacts attending school will need to adhere to the following in addition to the NSW Health guidelines
They must notify the school and/or early childhood education (ECE) service provider (including their outside of school hours care provider) if they are intending to return under this provision.
They should conduct a daily RAT and return a negative result each morning before attending school for 5 school days.
They (if in a secondary school setting) must wear a mask indoors except when eating or exercising. Primary school students are recommended to wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising).
No student or staff member identified as a close contact will be permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camps.
Thank you again for your continued support during this school term.

During English time students have been learning to work collaboratively and with respect. This week a Y chart was introduced to think about what something would sound like, feel like and look like. Students were given a short video clip to watch about our class text and just the front cover of the book to gather their information. They then recorded their information in short sentences on tables around the room. Students were able to read and make adjustments to sentences before deciding what to write on their own Y charts.
In math students used a protractor to measure the angles on the tables. This was very challenging.
Last week the students particpated in a number of activites to celebrate National Science Week. The 2022 theme was Glass: More than meets the eye.
Thank you to the Australian Science Teachers Associate for our grant of $500 to assist us in conducting the activites.
The Finley Zone athletics carnival was lots of fun and exciting
We had our set events and when our events were called we went to the spot where it was and waited our turn. The events that we made it onto were long jump, high jump, shot put, 100m, 200m, 800m, and relay. We had lots of fun and we also had lots of happy faces.
When someone was in a field event we would come and watch, if it was a track event we would be cheering at the top of our lungs and it was very fun and exciting. A big congratulations to Nancy, who was named the junior girl champion.
Now for the people who made it onto the Riverina carnival. They are: Nancy and the junior girls relay team Milla, Zali, Ruby H, and Nancy. We congratulate them and wish them luck.
