Covid Guidelines
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we are still continuing our COVID-smart measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses such as the flu in our school community.
Our COVID-smart measures
While the community continues to live with COVID-19, NSW Health has advised that the unpredictable nature of the virus will continue to present a health risk to the community, especially during the winter months while other respiratory illness circulate. As a response, our school will continue to operate with our baseline COVID-smart measures in place throughout this term to minimise transmission while prioritising student and staff wellbeing. These includes a combination of layered safety measures such as:
Staying home if unwell and test for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms
Students and staff are advised to stay home until they are well, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test result. Students can be supported to learn remotely if they are well enough.
Boosted day cleaning of high-touch areas in our schools.
Strongly encouraging masks to be worn by all students, staff and visitors, particularly when indoors or outdoors when physical distancing is difficult to maintain, and if exposed to COVID-1
Strongly encouraging up-to-date vaccinations for our students and staff, including COVID-19 booster shots and flu vaccinations for anyone eligible.
Maintaining natural ventilation with windows and doors open whenever possible, including when cooling/heating systems are in use.
Continuing to provide RATs and other hygiene products to our school community, free of charge.
Our school may be directed to temporarily reintroduce additional COVID-19 measures, including mandatory mask-wearing and postponing events and gatherings, or directing a cohort to learn from home for a short period to minimise transmission risks. The NSW Department of Education’s COVID-19 Health, Safety and Staff Wellbeing team will continue to lead this work when it is needed.
For further information about the COVID-smart measures in place this term refer to the department’s COVID-smart measures at school on our Advice for families page
I would also like to take this opportunity to share Fire and Rescue NSW’s Winter fire safety checklist (PDF 864.8KB). Please download the checklist and follow the instructions listed to help keep our households safe and warm during the colder months.
On behalf of our school, I want to thank you for your support in helping to keep our students, staff and community safe.
Moodamoot (farewell)
Regards
Gayle Pinn
Principal
On Wednesday 16 August Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 got to go to Oaklands to see the Beauty and the Beast musical.
At the start Belle was in a blue dress and Gaston wanted to marry Belle. But Belle kept on saying no!
Her mum went into the forest to go to Sydney but she heard wolf noises so needed somewhere to stay. She looked all over and found a door. She thought why don’t I go into this door?
When she knocked on the door the beast came out and said “What do you want?” She said “Can I stay here for a night?” The Beast got angry and said no and made her stay at his castle for a long time.
Then Belle came and said to the beast let my mum go and I will stay with you. The Beast took Belle in and let her mum go free. Then Gaston came and fought the Beast. The Beast won but got hurt by the knife. Gaston left and the Beast was on the ground. Belle came to help the Beast with Mrs Pots.
The rose petals kept falling off and they needed to help the Beast. The Beast then transformed back into a human! Then the Beast and Belle did a dance.
We thought the musical was great. Our favourite part was when they were all dancing together.

On Science Day we did a lot of activities like binary codes, paper aeroplanes, spheros and making fly traps.
With Mrs Linahan we learnt how to control spheros with an ipad. We played with the spheros and we raced and controlled them. We worked together, trying to control our sphero through a tunnel.
In Bobbinawarrah with Miss Urquhart we were making fly traps. We used a bunch of equipment Miss Urquhart gave to us. Some people paired up and helped each other. When we finished we could put a scent in the fly trap to attract insects.
With Mrs Pinn in Goonie we did Binary codes and it was a lot of fun. Different letters and numbers had different codes. Mrs Pinn had lots of activities set up. We had to figure out what the word was.
In Thurgoon with Mrs Rosmulder, we made paper planes and it was to see who could make them stay in the air for the longest. The two lucky winners won chocolate coins and we all had a lot of fun.

On Thursday 24 August we received our books during reading by the lake, which was a part of book week. The P&C gave each student $25 to spend on Book Club. Everyone was happy with the books that they chose. Students chose to read or play games at the lake. We enjoyed playing sport games that the sport captains organised for us. The K-2 kids got to play in the playground. We enjoyed having our lunch at the park. After lunch we went back to school and did some book week activities.
We are very grateful for the hard work of the P&C.

On Thursday 24 August, our school had book week activities. It was lots of fun to see so many cool costumes. I was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I was dressed in green and had red hair with a mask. After morning play time, the Mulwala preschool came for a costume parade. I really loved the butterfly and the builder. They were both from the preschool. I also loved Mrs Taylor's costume because she looked just like Mary Poppins. After the parade we went into groups and did activities like drawing, making jigsaws and driving the spheros. At lunch we walked down to the lake for reading by the lake. Mr Knight dressed up as a red crayon, Mrs Linehan dressed up as Wolf Girl, Mrs Sullivan dressed up as a penguin, Miss Sargeant dressed up as Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter, Mr Rosmulder dressed up as Mario and Miss Urquhart dressed up as The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

On Friday 25 August, we took part in the Riverina athletics carnival. Both of us drove to Albury to compete. Some of the other areas that competed were Albury zone, Ardlethan/Coolamon zone, Cootamundra zone, Deniliquin zone and Finley zone. We competed for the Finley zone.
Caitlin did an amazing job in shot put. She should be very proud of her achievement!
Nancy competed in 200m, 100m, discus, shot put, long jump and high jump. Nancy's first event was discus. She came third and will go to Sydney to compete in that as well as high jump. In her high jump she came first, jumping 1.31m. Nancy came fifth in 100m. In long jump and shot put she came fifth. The state carnival will be in October! She will be representing Riverina.
We had a fantastic time in Albury!
