Yarma (Welcome)
I would like to acknowledge the Bpangerang people, on whose land we are conducting today’s ceremony and on whose land children have been educated for thousands of years.
Once again, we had the school year that we weren’t expecting. We all experienced many challenges, from border closures, lockdown and remote learning, separated classrooms and playgrounds and teaching and learning remotely between classrooms. All of these restrictions have been to keep everyone safe.
Students, once again you have displayed immense resilience. You listened whilst the teachers explained to you the importance of the guidelines we all needed to follow, and you have all done an outstanding job of following them. Well done.
There have been many highlights and achievements this year, some of which the students will share with you. I want to mention our inaugural school athletics carnival. It was wonderful that we could hold the carnival at school, so you didn’t miss out.
I love visiting the classrooms and hearing the learning everyone is doing. The teachers have a session at our staff meetings to share our highlights during the week. I am totally amazed at what Goonie students have achieved with their use of technology. In no time they had learnt how to log on to the computer, access Google Classroom and use many of the apps for creation. Thurgoon students always surprise me with their deep thinking and curiosity. Their love of learning, passion for learning about new things and their ability to challenge themselves will lead them to be lifelong learners. The Nungara students have demonstrated tremendous learning in many areas, from inspirational women, refugees and writing very interesting stories about superheroes. The students have displayed their creativity when learning to use the new app, Canva. All students learnt to use coding skills in dance and music.
Each of our students have achieved many goals throughout the year, sometimes in unusual circumstances. You have learnt to become independent and responsible learners, which is a skill I encourage you to continue throughout your school.
I would like to thank all our staff for their hard-work and dedication this year. The staff always put the students first, to ensure that they provide the optimal learning conditions for the all of them. This week we farewell Miss Annie Martin. Miss Martin has only been with us for a short time. She will be heading off to university next year to begin her teaching degree. She has proven that she will be a wonderful teacher. Hopefully we will see her back some time.
We only have three days left of the 2021 school year. We are unsure of what the new school year will look like, but it is important that we all keep safe. Look after yourselves during the holiday break, and enjoy your time with your family and friends.
Moodamoot (farewell)
Regards
