Covid Guidelines
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we are still continuing our COVID-smart measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses such as the flu in our school community.
Our COVID-smart measures
While the community continues to live with COVID-19, NSW Health has advised that the unpredictable nature of the virus will continue to present a health risk to the community, especially during the winter months while other respiratory illness circulate. As a response, our school will continue to operate with our baseline COVID-smart measures in place throughout this term to minimise transmission while prioritising student and staff wellbeing. These includes a combination of layered safety measures such as:
Staying home if unwell and test for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms
. Students and staff are advised to stay home until they are well, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test result. Students can be supported to learn remotely if they are well enough.
Boosted day cleaning of high-touch areas in our schools.
Strongly encouraging masks to be worn by all students, staff and visitors, particularly when indoors or outdoors when physical distancing is difficult to maintain, and if exposed to COVID-1
Strongly encouraging up-to-date vaccinations for our students and staff, including COVID-19 booster shots and flu vaccinations for anyone eligible.
Maintaining natural ventilation with windows and doors open whenever possible, including when cooling/heating systems are in use.
Continuing to provide RATs and other hygiene products to our school community, free of charge.
Our school may be directed to temporarily reintroduce additional COVID-19 measures, including mandatory mask-wearing and postponing events and gatherings, or directing a cohort to learn from home for a short period to minimise transmission risks. The NSW Department of Education’s COVID-19 Health, Safety and Staff Wellbeing team will continue to lead this work when it is needed.
For further information about the COVID-smart measures in place this term refer to the department’s COVID-smart measures at school on our Advice for families page
I would also like to take this opportunity to share Fire and Rescue NSW’s Winter fire safety checklist (PDF 864.8KB). Please download the checklist and follow the instructions listed to help keep our households safe and warm during the colder months.
On behalf of our school, I want to thank you for your support in helping to keep our students, staff and community safe.
Moodamoot (farewell)
Regards
Gayle Pinn

On the 31 July we left school at 8:45am for the Small Schools Public Speaking final. Skyla, Harper, Nevaeh and Remi went to Corowa South Public School. There were a lot of people doing public speaking. They did Year 5 and 6 first . Nevaeh was first up and they all did very well. Then we had a fruit break. After the fruit break Years 3 and 4 spoke. They all did very well also.
We also had a delicious morning tea.
Nevaeh came runner up. Congratulations.
After we had finished we went to the supermarket with Mrs Pinn. We had to get some stuff for school science.

On Thursday 10 May, the Multicultural Public Speaking regional final was held at Young Public School. I gave a speech about learning from the past. I talked about the White Australia Policy and the Stolen Generations. I also gave an impromptu speech about “how annoying”. I talked about how annoying my jobs are in the afternoon and morning.
There were eight other kids from other schools that gave speeches. They all did very well. Congratulations to the winner for a very delightful speech. After the speeches we each got a turn to talk to one of the adjudicators so they could give us feedback about our speeches.

On 31 July Dious and I went to Stewart house, in Sydney. Stewart house is located next to Curl Curl beach, so if you were in the downstairs cabins you had an amazing view each day you woke up.
At Stewart house there were 6 groups; mudcrabs, stingrays, dolphins, turtles, sharks and blue whales. Each group had an in and out day. On the out days we would leave the Stewart house school and go to a fun location in Sydney, for example, the Taronga Zoo or the Wax Museum, but some of the other locations we went to were; Sydney Sealife, Australian Museum, SOPAC (Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre), Cook and Phillip pool, a walk across the Sydney Harbour (not across the top), and bowling.
But on days we would stay at the school and do fun activities like pottery or woodwork. Sometimes we would also go to the beach.

For two weeks starting on the 31 July Katherine and I went on a 10 hour drive to Sydney's Stewart House on South Curl Curl Beach.
Stewart House is amazing with amazing facilities for example games room , a cinema , amazing eating area for 2 meals a day and a hair salon and more.
On weekdays we had school without learning- fun activities. On the in days school classes we did fun activities like tie dye, pottery, Indigenous activities and woodwork and art. Free time was stuff like laptops, beading beach , games and drawing. When it is a out day we go to many place like Taronga Zoo, Sydney Aquarium and Madame Tussauds wax museum.

On Monday 14 August, Xavier and myself (Dious) participated in the Premier’s Regional Spelling Bee Finals in the library at a zoom meeting with Mrs Sullivan. Xavier’s rounds of spelling were first thing in the morning in the Junior Division. He made it through to the fourth round. He started off with an easy word making it into the next round. His next word was 'vampire'. He spelled it correctly so he moved onto the next round. Xavier’s third round word was 'canyon', he spelt it quick and easy, moving onto the next round. On his next round his word was 'collarbone' but unfortunately he missed the 'e' at the end of the word. Before Xavier started the Spelling Bee Final he felt scared and nervous. After he finished the Spelling Bee he felt very proud of himself for making a great effort into the fourth round of the competition.
My Spelling Bee rounds were in the afternoon in the library in the Senior Division. In the first round of the Spelling Bee my word was 'trumpet'. My first word was very easy to spell so I moved on to the next round with everybody else because we all made it on to round two. Round two was starting to get a little more complex with a couple of people getting knocked out of the competition. My word was 'expedition', which was one of the easier words compared to some harder words that other people had. I got it correct so I moved on to the next round which was round three. The round three words were really complex with words that are spelt differently to how they sound (Specific Name Heteronym). My word was 'alluvial'. Unfortunately I spelt the word wrong and only nine people were remaining in the competition. In the next round, only three people got them correct to move on to round five. One person got it correct and the other two didn't so they had to battle it out until just one person won. Before and during the time period of the Spelling Bee I was really nervous and scared but after I was eliminated, I was very proud of myself for making it that far.

Visitors and students also had the opportunity to move between the classrooms to experience a variety of activities; Beebots, growth mindset, sensory play and Kahoot. The afternoon concluded with the whole school dancing to the Nutbush.
