Yarma (Welcome)
Welcome back
I would like to welcome all students back to school for Term 4. This term is always very busy, so please be aware of all the activities that are occuring. Check the calendars at the bottom of this newsletter, or in the School Bytes app.
Permanent Appointments
I am very pleased to announce the following staff members have been appointed to the school in permanent positions. This has occurred via the NSW Department of Education's Temporary to Permanent program.
Lisa Linehan- 3 days per week
Michelle Rosmulder- now 5 days per week
Natalie Ferguson- 2 days per week.
All staff members have held long term termporarty positions over many years at Mulwala Public School and we are very fortunate they are now permanent members of our staff.
Personalised learning and support plans
The school is in a fortunate position to be fully staffed and we have a number of Support Officers (SLSOs) to assist students in the classroom. A new English syllabus has been implemented this year, and with that we have introduced a new reading program using decodable readers called Little Learners Love Literacy. We have used the assessment tasks in this program, along with department assessment tasks to identify any 'gaps' the students have in their reading. This has allowed us to create personalised learning plans for many students. All personalised learning plans will be sent home over the next 2 weeks, stating the learning goal for the students. Please contact your child's teacher if you wish to discuss them further.
Grandparents Day
Grandparents Day is one of our favourite days of the year, and is very well supported. Your child will take home invitiations today to give/send to their grandparents and/or special people. Please contact your child's teacher if you require more invitations.
Date: Friday 27 Ocotber
Time: 1:00 pm- 3:00 pm
Lunch provided
Please RSVP to school by Monday 23 October
School Bytes
School Bytes now has an app which can be downloaded onto your phones. Please see the information in this newsletter.
Covid Guidelines
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we are still continuing our COVID-smart measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses such as the flu in our school community.
Our COVID-smart measures
While the community continues to live with COVID-19, NSW Health has advised that the unpredictable nature of the virus will continue to present a health risk to the community, especially during the winter months while other respiratory illness circulate. As a response, our school will continue to operate with our baseline COVID-smart measures in place throughout this term to minimise transmission while prioritising student and staff wellbeing. These includes a combination of layered safety measures such as:
Staying home if unwell and test for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms
Students and staff are advised to stay home until they are well, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test result. Students can be supported to learn remotely if they are well enough.
Boosted day cleaning of high-touch areas in our schools.
Strongly encouraging masks to be worn by all students, staff and visitors, particularly when indoors or outdoors when physical distancing is difficult to maintain, and if exposed to COVID-1
Strongly encouraging up-to-date vaccinations for our students and staff, including COVID-19 booster shots and flu vaccinations for anyone eligible.
Maintaining natural ventilation with windows and doors open whenever possible, including when cooling/heating systems are in use.
Continuing to provide RATs and other hygiene products to our school community, free of charge.
Our school may be directed to temporarily reintroduce additional COVID-19 measures, including mandatory mask-wearing and postponing events and gatherings, or directing a cohort to learn from home for a short period to minimise transmission risks. The NSW Department of Education’s COVID-19 Health, Safety and Staff Wellbeing team will continue to lead this work when it is needed.
For further information about the COVID-smart measures in place this term refer to the department’s COVID-smart measures at school on our Advice for families page
I would also like to take this opportunity to share Fire and Rescue NSW’s Winter fire safety checklist (PDF 864.8KB). Please download the checklist and follow the instructions listed to help keep our households safe and warm during the colder months.
On behalf of our school, I want to thank you for your support in helping to keep our students, staff and community safe.
Moodamoot (farewell)
Regards

In September, 11 students from Mulwala went to Sydney for the Signing Choir. We performed at the Town Hall. We did two different songs called Under The Southern Skies and Candy Man. We had the same instructors Larry and Rhonda. There were a few new students there.
When we had a break for lunch Mrs Rosmulder took us to Maccas.
There was a large audience to come and watch our performance. It took lots of practice both at school and the Town Hall. We had the same T-shirts as last year. There were many different students from schools from all around New South Wales. There was a Singing Choir and a Performing Band. It was so much fun and a great experience to have.

On the last day of Term 3 we had Footy Colours day. Everyone came in their footy shirts, scarves, beanies and jumpers. There was also a gold coin donation for Kids With Cancer. Two teams were really common, which were Collingwood and Essendon. But there were other other teams such as Geelong, Richmond, Carlton and many others and everybody had fun supporting their teams.
On 22 September we had our Halloween school disco. We played a game of musical statues and it was so much fun. One of the best things about the disco was that we could bring a friend. For dinner we had a hotdog and for dessert we had a choice of chocolate crackles, or a mini bag of chocolate treats. There was lots of loud music. There were also lots of cool and scary costumes. There were some Halloween figures, some of them were very scary. Another cool thing they were handing out glow sticks. We have to give the P&C a big thank you for all the hard work they all put in to make a very fun disco and thank you to the DJ’s for doing the music.

We are pleased to announce that the School Bytes team has launched a parent app for Apple and Android devices.
This app is designed to complement our existing parent portal, and makes it easier for parents to use School Bytes on their mobile devices. In addition, a key feature is the addition of push notifications so we can send out alerts to parents through the app.
Why a parent app now?
A parent app was not originally on our roadmap, however in the past month, we have used a new app development framework that has allowed our team to develop a high quality, reliable mobile app extremely quickly. The development of this app also addresses feedback given by parents in terms of ease of access to information.
What is the cost of the parent app?
The parent app is no additional cost, and is included as part of your annual subscription to School Bytes.
When will it be available?
The app is available now.
The app can be downloaded on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Direct links are provided below:
App Store - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/school-bytes/id6463097826
Google Play - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=education.schoolbytes
Can it send push notifications?
Yes. Various areas of School Bytes have been uplifted to support sending push notifications including school news posts, emergency alerts, newsletter uploads, and new activity/excursion alerts.
The next P&C meeting will be held this evening at 7pm in the staff room at school. Please come along and suppor the hard working committee.
Mulwala Public School P&C are hosting a Stuck on You fundraiser. If you are needing labels, lunch boxes etc for next year click on the link above to purchase.
