Covid Guidelines
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we are still continuing our COVID-smart measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses such as the flu in our school community.
Our COVID-smart measures
While the community continues to live with COVID-19, NSW Health has advised that the unpredictable nature of the virus will continue to present a health risk to the community, especially during the winter months while other respiratory illness circulate. As a response, our school will continue to operate with our baseline COVID-smart measures in place throughout this term to minimise transmission while prioritising student and staff wellbeing. These includes a combination of layered safety measures such as:
Staying home if unwell and test for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms
Students and staff are advised to stay home until they are well, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test result. Students can be supported to learn remotely if they are well enough.
Boosted day cleaning of high-touch areas in our schools.
Strongly encouraging masks to be worn by all students, staff and visitors, particularly when indoors or outdoors when physical distancing is difficult to maintain, and if exposed to COVID-1
Strongly encouraging up-to-date vaccinations for our students and staff, including COVID-19 booster shots and flu vaccinations for anyone eligible.
Maintaining natural ventilation with windows and doors open whenever possible, including when cooling/heating systems are in use.
Continuing to provide RATs and other hygiene products to our school community, free of charge.
Our school may be directed to temporarily reintroduce additional COVID-19 measures, including mandatory mask-wearing and postponing events and gatherings, or directing a cohort to learn from home for a short period to minimise transmission risks. The NSW Department of Education’s COVID-19 Health, Safety and Staff Wellbeing team will continue to lead this work when it is needed.
For further information about the COVID-smart measures in place this term refer to the department’s COVID-smart measures at school on our Advice for families page
I would also like to take this opportunity to share Fire and Rescue NSW’s Winter fire safety checklist (PDF 864.8KB). Please download the checklist and follow the instructions listed to help keep our households safe and warm during the colder months.
On behalf of our school, I want to thank you for your support in helping to keep our students, staff and community safe.
Moodamoot (farewell)

Gayle Pinn

On the 18 - 20 of October we went to Borambola for school camp. We had to leave school at 7:00am and we stopped at Holbrook where the big black submarine is situated.
When we got to Borambola we had some lunch and checked out our rooms. Then we walked up to initiatives. It was really fun. We had groups and had to use teamwork to get through the courses.
After fruit break we did the mud run. It was so much fun! We were in groups. My group had Nevaeh, Scarlett, Layla and myself. After we had showers and dinner and played mini olympics. Then we had supper and headed to our cabins. Lights out was at 9:30. We got woken up at seven and got ready and went to breakfast. We did fencing then had a fruit break and did kayaking. It was so much fun! We played tag and at the end we were allowed to jump and splash everyone. Then we had lunch. After lunch we had chain reaction, we would make a goal to make a goal. My group did like a marble run but a marble had to get in the cup at the end. After that we had lunch and then we had dinner. Then we did the Borambola show. We would
run our own show. We had supper and got ready for bed. The next day was our last day we did circus and archery. It was so much fun. We then had to go home. We got to school at around 5:00pm.

When we were at camp we had three meals every day and breaks in between and all of those meals we ate in the dining hall where activities where held as well. After lunch on the first day we had to go to the recreation hall to sort who was in which room. Then we went for our first activity. After that we had to get ready for our next activity. After the activity we went to get ready for dinner. After dinner we played mini Olympics which we very much enjoyed. After that we had supper then got ready for bed, lights out was at 9:30. 7:00am everybody up! We then got changed and went to breakfast. After we where then sent to go brush our teeth and freshen up for the day, Then we went to meet on the fake grass. Then we were sent of to our activities for the morning and soon following lunch then dinner, bed. The next day we said our good byes after lunch and went home.

On the 24 October Year 5 went to Corowa High School for a transition day. We all went on a bus with an old classmate named Amelia. When we got there Amelia took us to where we were meant to be.
We were all put into three groups with the Year 10s helping us. Then we went off to our first activities. My first activity was quizzes. We had these pieces of paper and we had to swap them with other people from the other schools.
Then we had to do what sport we liked. Then we went to maths and we had these little bits of paper with counters and a dice and on the piece of paper they had numbers 0 through to 5 and it was like a chance game. We had to put counters on the numbers and then you had to roll the dice and if you landed on that number you could take your counter but if you didn't land on it then you would have to skip that go and wait for your next go. After that we had a bit of a recess break. Then my group went to do woodwork. Woodwork was very fun. We made a noughts and crosses board. We got to use drills, saws, paint and then after that we had a lunch break . For lunch, the Year 10s made us sausages. They were very nice.
The last activity I had was history. We all had a country. We went outside and we got put into different spots and all these particular places that had points and we had to run as fast as we could to get the most points and my team won with the most points because the whole team sat on the ones that had the most points.
After that we played sport as a whole group so all the groups combined. The groups were ultimate frisbee, cricket and a game where we had to throw the ball five times in a row. My group was very good at the ultimate frisbee. The cricket was very fun. It was in the inside basketball room and the game where you had to throw out five times in a row was in front of the canteen. My favourite game was the one we had to throw it five times in a row, because I like to play netball and it's a bit like netball. You also couldn't move with the ball so it was a bit of a challenge. After that just before we left we played a big game of tug of war. We played three rounds of the tug of war and the big strong Year 10s on my team made us win. There were so many other kids like little kids on the other team but my team had not many people but the older kids were on my team. It was very very fun. Then we went on the bus back to Mulwala and went home. It was a very very fun day.

On the 24 October everyone from Year 5 enjoyed getting onto the bus and riding with one of our old jarmbies Amelia to Corowa High School. When we arrived at Corowa High School we met Amelia's friends and then the school Principal came out to tell us what group we were and what we were going to do for the day. My group was the Bugs Bunny and we had amazing Year 10s helping us through all of our classes
First we got a tour of the school from top to bottom and we met all of the teachers. After we got a tour we went to my favourite class: cooking class! We made these mouth-watering vegemite scrolls. While making them I really wanted them to be done because I knew they were going to be good. I ate them during recess. I was a bit scared to try them because I normally don't like onions, but it tasted amazing!
After recess we went out the front near the oval and they gave us a quiz about the school to see if we could remember where everything was like what block the cooking class is in. As our prize we got Freddo Frogs!
Our next class was maths! In maths we played lots of fun games. One was Your Jail Mates in Jail and we had to try and get them out by using the dice to try and roll the number of their jail cell.
For lunch, the amazing Year 10s and the principal made us a sausage each. There was also a canteen that had ice cream and lots of other food. Then all of the groups formed together to play sports. We played cricket, ultimate frisbee and tug of war. At Corowa High School there is an indoor basketball court and that's where we played cricket. My favourite one of them all was ultimate frisbee. We had to make it to the other side of the basketball court without dropping it or letting the other team take it off us.
After that we went out the front of the school and we all got a free drink bottle with the school's logo on it and a piece of paper with how we are going home. We all thanked our Year 10 helpers and walked down to the bus stop and went back home with Amelia.
Fun fact about their school- they have phone cases that lock your phone from the start of the school till the end and they unlock it with a magnet thing. But overall the day was really exciting.

We went on a bus from the Mulwala Bakery at 7:45am. We got there about 8:25am. When we got there we sat down on the grass and listened to the Deputy Principal who gave us stickers that had our first name, last name, our school and our group.
We went on a tour around the school with Tyler and his friends. They were Year 10 students. Our first activity was science. We made mini rockets. We used a Berocca tube, paper, vinegar and bicarb soda. We used the paper to make a mini rocket and there was a lid on the bottom of the mini rocket. We put bicarb soda first in the tube then we put the vinegar in a tissue. We went outside to the basketball court with the mini rocket. We put the vinegar in the rocket then quickly closed the lid. It exploded! It didn't go high.
We went to recess and then we did music. For music we used the keyboard. We played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star then we played the ukulele. Then we did geography which was a quiz. Whoever won the quiz got chocolate and we won. Then we had lunch. After we had lunch we played sport. We played rob the nest and some other games. When we finished the day they gave us Corowa High school rulers.

On Tuesday 31 October 2023 we had to go to the bus stop near the Mulwala Bakery. The bus left at 7:45am. We got there at about 8:30am. When we got there we met the Deputy Principal and Mrs Ferguson. Then we got in to our groups. Our group was called tweety birds. We got to look around. We had Year 10 students, Tyler and his friends give us a tour.
The first class was science and we had to mix bicarb soda and vinegar to make a chemical reaction. We made a mini rocket out of paper and a tube and we put the vinegar and bicarb soda and it exploded on me and Lylah!
After science we had recess and played on the oval and then the bell went and we went to our next class which was music. In music we got to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on the keyboard. My group was Zara, Xavier and me. We also played the ukulele to the song Du Du Du. We played the top beat and the bottom beat. It was fun.
Then we had geography where we played a game where you have to answer a question from each category. It was fun because at the end we got chocolate. After the bell went we went to the oval to do sport. We played games like rob the nest and other games. They gave us a Corowa High School ruler, 2 pencils, an eraser and a sharpener.

This year's Grandparents Day was a great turn out with many grandparents attending the afternoon. The grandparents loved spending time with their grandchildren doing the activities and watching the performances that the classes put on.
All of the grandparents enjoyed their time at our school having a look at what we learn and having a look at all our classrooms.
Thank you so much for attending our school for the 2023 Grandparents Day.

This year's Grandparents Day turned out very well. The grandparents and students could choose out of three activities. The activities were Rob the Nest on the oval, in Goonie there were Beebots and in Nungara there were Halloween activities and Ms Sullivan decorated Nungara with Halloween decorations.
A big thank you to the Sweet and Sour Sisters who provided the lunch for everyone and thank you to everyone who came to the 2023 Grandparents Day

We are pleased to announce that the School Bytes team has launched a parent app for Apple and Android devices.
This app is designed to complement our existing parent portal, and makes it easier for parents to use School Bytes on their mobile devices. In addition, a key feature is the addition of push notifications so we can send out alerts to parents through the app.
Why a parent app now?
A parent app was not originally on our roadmap, however in the past month, we have used a new app development framework that has allowed our team to develop a high quality, reliable mobile app extremely quickly. The development of this app also addresses feedback given by parents in terms of ease of access to information.
What is the cost of the parent app?
The parent app is no additional cost, and is included as part of your annual subscription to School Bytes.
When will it be available?
The app is available now.
The app can be downloaded on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Direct links are provided below:
App Store - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/school-bytes/id6463097826
