Dear parents and carers
Student Behaviour Policy
The NSW Department of Education has released a new Student Behaviour Policy. This is 'to ensure every student is engaged and learns to their fullest capability regardless of where they live and learn, and that all students, teachers and staff are safe in school.'. The staff will evaluate the school's behaviour procedures in line with the department's policy. We will consult with students and parents. The Behaviour Code for Students is included in this newsletter.
Grandparents Day
Mulwala Public School is celebrating Grandparents' Day on Friday 28 October. Please see the invitation included in the newsletter. Grandparents and students will be provided with a free lunch (sausage sandwiches). We also ask families to donate a small plate of cakes, biscuits, slices etc. Thank you to the P&C members who are volunteering to cook the lunch.
Police Fun Day
On Wednesday 2 November the local police officers are conducting a Police Fun Day at school. Barooga and Berrigan Public Schools will be joining us. The police will organise fun activities throughout the day, so the students get to know them. They will also be providing all students with a free bbq lunch.
Presentation Day
The annual presentation day will be held at school on Wednesday 14 December at 9:30 am. Families and friends are welcome to attend.
Year 6 farewell assembly
The Year 6 farewell assembly will be held at school on the last day of the term- Friday 16 December at 2 pm.
Head lice
There have been a number of cases of head lice reported at school. Please ensure you check your child's hair regularly and treat them if necessary. I have included information about the best way to treat head lice in this newsletter.
Bringing belongings to school
We discourage students from bringing any belonging from home to school. This prevents students from becoming upset because they have lost something, or it gets broken. We have had some students trading their toys. The school has plenty of various equipment for the students to play with in their breaks
Lost Property
There are hundreds of dollars worth of lost property belonging to students at school, which is unnamed. This consists of clothing and drink bottles. Please ask your child to look in the lost property baskets to retrieve their items.
Updated Covid Information
The recent announcement to the changes in how schools use RATs as a surveillance measure against COVID-19 means that students and staff will only need to test if they are displaying COVID-19 symptoms. If you require more RAT kits please contact the school.
Our school will continue to ensure our core COVID-smart layers are in place, including vaccinations, physical distancing where possible, maximised fresh air flow through natural ventilation, continued good hand hygiene practices and enhanced cleaning.
If a student or staff member receives a positive RAT result, they need to:
record the positive RAT result through the Service NSW website or Service NSW app and please include the name of your child’s school when prompted
notify the school of the positive RAT or PCR result as soon as possible
follow NSW Health advice to isolate for 7 days.
Registering your child’s positive RAT with Service NSW is a requirement of the Public Health Order and helps NSW Health track COVID-19 in schools and address any public health issues early on if required.
Negative results do not need to be reported to Service NSW or to the school.
Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative and they are displaying no symptoms OR they are diagnosed as another condition such as hayfever, the student or staff member can return to school.
In NSW, positive COVID-19 cases are provided a Medical Clearance Notice after 7 days and allowed to leave self-isolation as long as they do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
For further information refer to the NSW Government’s Rapid antigen testing fact sheetExternal link.
The announcement to ease the isolation requirements for close contacts was made on 20 April 2022. This will enable students and staff who are close contacts and have no symptoms to continue to attend school if they follow guidelines agreed with NSW Health.
Note that staff and students who have had confirmed COVID-19 in the last 12 weeks do not have to comply with the following guidelines if they become a household or close contact and are not required to self-isolate or test unless they develop new COVID-19 symptoms.
Close contacts attending school will need to adhere to the following in addition to the NSW Health guidelines
They must notify the school and/or early childhood education (ECE) service provider (including their outside of school hours care provider) if they are intending to return under this provision.
They should conduct a daily RAT and return a negative result each morning before attending school for 5 school days.
They (if in a secondary school setting) must wear a mask indoors except when eating or exercising. Primary school students are recommended to wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising).
No student or staff member identified as a close contact will be permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camps.
Thank you again for your continued support during this school term.
Covid Safe Guidelines
All staff, volunteers and providers are fully vaccinated
Staff are no longer required to wear masks
All visitors when attending the school site must QR code in.
Students have been provided with rapid antigen kits.
Visitors are allowed on school site . They are required to check-in.

In Geography, Stage 1 students have been learning how ‘spaces within a place’ can be used for different purposes. The students discussed the Mulwala Public School COLA. They researched the acronym and found that it means Covered Outdoor Learning Area. The students took photos to demonstrate why the COLA was built and what was special about the COLA. They also discussed who uses the COLA and found many different people use the COLA for different purposes.
'We keep our bags and rubbish bins safe from the rain.
We sit on the silver seats to eat our recess and lunch.
There are lights under the COLA.
The entrance to the library is under the COLA.
The roof is made of tin to keep the sun and rain out.
