Covid Guidelines
I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that we are still continuing our COVID-smart measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses such as the flu in our school community.
Our COVID-smart measures
While the community continues to live with COVID-19, NSW Health has advised that the unpredictable nature of the virus will continue to present a health risk to the community, especially during the winter months while other respiratory illness circulate. As a response, our school will continue to operate with our baseline COVID-smart measures in place throughout this term to minimise transmission while prioritising student and staff wellbeing. These includes a combination of layered safety measures such as:
Staying home if unwell and test for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms
. Students and staff are advised to stay home until they are well, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test result. Students can be supported to learn remotely if they are well enough.
Boosted day cleaning of high-touch areas in our schools.
Strongly encouraging masks to be worn by all students, staff and visitors, particularly when indoors or outdoors when physical distancing is difficult to maintain, and if exposed to COVID-1
Strongly encouraging up-to-date vaccinations for our students and staff, including COVID-19 booster shots and flu vaccinations for anyone eligible.
Maintaining natural ventilation with windows and doors open whenever possible, including when cooling/heating systems are in use.
Continuing to provide RATs and other hygiene products to our school community, free of charge.
Our school may be directed to temporarily reintroduce additional COVID-19 measures, including mandatory mask-wearing and postponing events and gatherings, or directing a cohort to learn from home for a short period to minimise transmission risks. The NSW Department of Education’s COVID-19 Health, Safety and Staff Wellbeing team will continue to lead this work when it is needed.
For further information about the COVID-smart measures in place this term refer to the department’s COVID-smart measures at school on our Advice for families page
I would also like to take this opportunity to share Fire and Rescue NSW’s Winter fire safety checklist (PDF 864.8KB). Please download the checklist and follow the instructions listed to help keep our households safe and warm during the colder months.
On behalf of our school, I want to thank you for your support in helping to keep our students, staff and community safe.

Friday the 19th of May was Sorry Day. In Jarmbie time we did some different activities like colouring in a hand , doing a word search and a colouring sheet. On our piece of paper we had to write words about Sorry Day and why it’s so important to so many people. On the word search we had to find different words about Sorry Day.
We read a book called We Are Australians. Our teacher made us a Google Slides document about Sorry Day. It was all about why we acknowledge it and why it's special for so many people.

On the 2 June Amity, Poppy R, Keisha, Harper, Charlie, Xavier, Koopa, Lylah, Amelia, Will, Layla, Nancy, Natalie, Brodie, Dious, Tommy, Finn and Scarlett went to Jerilderie to compete in our Zone Cross Country. Everyone did their best and had a go. We caught the bus at 7:30. It took an hour and a half to get to Jerilderie. Before the races we had to walk the track to see where we were running.
We are waiting to hear the results of the carnivals and which students will go on to the Riverina Cross Country.

On the 30th of May, Celia Craig and Caspar Hawksley came to our school to share their music with us and their music experience. They called their duo Colours of Home. Celia played the oboe and Casper played an electric guitar. The first song they performed was from a lady that they knew because she loved in Sydney but travelled to Newcastle to work and she took the train. They did a song about looking out the window of the train and the landscape changing from the city to the bush.
For the second song that they played they had a colour wheel and they would spin it and the colour that it would land on they would feel a colour with emotions and we would tell them how to play their instruments. We did three of those songs and Celia told us that when she plays she can see colours and one of her friends can taste colours. That is called synesthesia.
With the third song some of one of their friends wrote a song about the Torres Strait because he lived there as a boy and he remembered going fishing in a canoe and he wrote lyrics for them and we got to join in by clapping and doing actions. Overall the experience was great and everyone had an amazing time.

On the 30th of May Celia and Casper came to our school to share their music with us and their music experience was really good. They played three songs with two instruments. The first one had to make us think of someone going on a train and going from Sydney to Newcastile because she worked in Newcastle. We had to imagine her getting on the train travelling through Sydney and then exiting Sydney and then travelling through the bush and then stopping at the Newcastle train station.
The next song we had to imagine that a boy got on a canoe boat and went far out to sea because the water level was low and all the fish were far away from the island so fishermen had to go far away from the island to catch fish.
The third song they had an umbrella. It was rainbow coloured and they would spin it and the colour it landed on the song had to be the song type for example red would be loud and angry. Thank you reading my class report.

National Simultaneous Story time was on the 24 of May 2023. The entire school read the Speedy Sloth in Goonie with Mrs Linehan. Mrs Linehan brought in a toy sloth named Steve. Some of the kids decorated a coat rack that Mrs Linehan brought in for Steve to hang out on for the day. At the end of the book we got a photo with the book and Steve.
On Thursday in library time we did some activities involving the Speedy Sloth. These activities included drawing the Speedy Sloth and a maze that we could do when we had finished the drawing.

In science, Stage 3 students have been learning about forces and energy. Students learned about different types of forces, including buoyancy and gravity. They compared these two forces in an experiment where they had to create different shapes with clay to see which would float. Students explored energy transfers and transformations using the solar car kits to create cars that converted solar energy into kinetic energy.
Student have been learning the Bpangerang words for family and friends. They created flip cards for a word of their choice. Students enjoy playing online Word Wall to practise matching Bpangerang to English words.
