Yarma (Welcome) to the 2021 school year.
Remote Learning
A big thank you to the staff and students who were very flexible and prepared for the resumption of remote and online learning. We are hoping that our Victorian students and staff can join us soon. I will keep you updated as I receive information.
2021 Kinder students
On Monday we welcomed Destiny into Kinder. She joins us from Western Australia. It is amazing how quickly our new jarmbies have settled into our school and started their formal education journey and the routine of school. It is expected that they may be tired at the end of the day, but it is most important that they get into the routine of attending school every day unless they are sick.
Information session for Goonie parents
A parent information session will be held on Wednesday 24 February at 3 pm for parents that have a child in the Goonie class (Kinder and Year 1). Due to the Covid guidelines, we can only have one parent/grandparent/carer per family. Your child/ren are invited to stay at school for play while you attend the session. Afternoon tea will be provided for parents and children. Please RSVP via the School eNews form by Friday 19 February.
P&C AGM
The Mulwala Public School P&C have raised significant funds over the years to support the learning and opportunities of all students. This has included payment of buses for excursions, Reading by the Lake and new interactive panels in the classrooms. Please consider joining the P&C to assist supporting the students.
The P&C will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 16 March at 6 pm at the school, followed by a general meeting.
Afternoon routine
Thank you to the parents who have completed the afternoon routine form. It is imperative that the teacher on duty knows how all students are going home each afternoon. If there are any changes to your child's routine, please contact the school. If you have not completed the form, please do so as soon as possible.
Drink bottles
There are a number of students not bringing drink bottles to school. The weather has warmed up, so we are encouraging the students to drink plenty of water during the day. Please ensure your child has a water bottle each day, or if they have misplaced it, that they look in lost property.
Small Schools Swimming Carnival
The swimming carnival was to be held on Monday 22 February at the Yarrawonga pool. I will keep you updated as to what the plans for the carnival are.
The Finley Zone swimming carnival will be held on Friday 26 February at Cobram, and the Riverina Swimming carnival on Wednesday 10 March at Leeton.
Permission Notes
Please note that all permission notes are being distributed via School News. Please ensure you check this app regularly or have notifications turned on. The information is also sent to your nominated email address. Reminders are sent to individual parents via Class Dojo. We have a number of parents who have not responded to permission notes. Unfortunately, your child is unable to attend events without your written permissions.
Ambulance Cover
The NSW Department of Education makes arrangments for the NSW Ambulance School and Group Cover Scheme which are now in place for the 2021 school year.
This scheme, managed by the NSW Ambulance Service, provides assurance that any student enrolled at a NSW public school, who has an accident or falls ill whilst at school or on an organised school excursion or activity, and requires the ambulance service, will have this cost met through the scheme.
Bring your Wheels on Thursdays
We will continue this program this year. All students are encouraged to bring their bike, skateboard, rollerblades etc to school on Thursdays and will be able to ride them at lunchtimes. They MUST have a helmet and other appropriate safety gear.
Bringing toys to school
The school has ample equipment and toys for students to play with at recess and lunchtimes. We ask that students do not bring toys from home.
Covid Guidelines
The NSW Department of Education has updated the guidelines for this year. They can be viewed here. Please note the following
Parents are unable to enter the school grounds or attend school events during school hours, unless for essential purposes, ie a meeting with a parent.
All students will be dismissed by the Erne St gate.
Students are requested to bring a water bottle to school each day.
Students are requested to supply an art smock and headphones/earbuds
If any student has the mildest flu-like symptoms they are to provide the school with evidence of a negative Covid test, or remain absent from school for 10 days. Students are not to return to school until all they are symptom-free. Students and staff must not attend school or work if they are unwell, even with the mildness of symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of taste, and loss of smell. Students need to be symptom free and a negative COVID-19 test result must be received and sighted by the school prior to their return to school. Students who do not undertake a COVID-19 test are not permitted to return to school for a 10 day period and they must be symptom free for at least 3 days prior to their return. Students who have seasonal allergic rhinitis or another condition that presents similarly to flu-like symptoms are still required to get tested for COVID-19 and return a negative test result. Where their symptoms continue beyond 10 days, students should provide documentation from their GP confirming their symptoms are typical for their condition.

Congratulations to all the students who particpated in the Learn to Swim program. They all made wonderful progress in a short amount of time.
As we all know, 2020 was a tough year.
This is particularly so for our students and teachers who have risen to the challenges in a disrupted year that included seven weeks of remote learning due to COVID-19, and in some areas, that came on top of bushfires and floods.
For our students, this has been an unsettling time.
The government and department have recognised this with the announcement of a $337 million program aimed at ensuring that schools can identify students who would benefit the most from intensive support. This will be tailored to their requirements to ensure that students’ educational outcomes continue to improve in 2021.
The 2021External link COVID intensive learning support program will provide small group tuition for students who need it most across NSW primary, secondary and specialist schools.
All public schools across the state will benefit with an allocation to employ additional teachers and educators to support student learning.
Very shortly we will start planning for the implementation of a small group tuition program in our school. The groups will be conducted during schools hours, targeting the needs of individual students. Although we will be focusing on literacy and numeracy, we are considering a number of subject areas.
Our school is very fortunate that we are able to offer many of our students some support. Parents with students involved in the program will receive their child's plan in the near future. Parents are requested to sign the plan and return it to the school. The plans are regularly evaluated, and the parents will receive a copy of the evaluation In the meantime the department’s website has more information on this program.
Due to the NSW Depzartment of Education and P&C Federation's COVID-19 guidelines the P&C have made the decision to cancel the 2021 Easter Market.
