Dear parents and carers
Reading by the Lake
Once again, I would like to give the P&C a big shout-out for the kind donation of the Reading by the Lake books for all the students. This has been an annual event for many years, and one which the students look forward to with great excitement.
Please support the P&C with their fundraising ventures and consider coming to the next meeting on 17 August at 7 pm at the school.
Parent Teacher interviews
Parents are invited to attend parent-teacher interviews over the next two weeks. Please book an interview time here shorturl.at/clVX6
Zone Athletics Carnival
The Finley Zone athletics carnival will be held on Friday 12 August at the Finley Recreation Reserve. Good luck to all the students competing.
Book Week
This Term, Week 6, we will celebrate Book Week on Thursday, 25th August. The Mulwala Pre School students will join our students at 11:30 to participate in Book Week activities based on the short listed books from the Children’s Book Council of Australia. The Book Week theme this year is ‘Dreaming with Your Eyes Open’. Students are encouraged to dress in their favourite book character, use lots of imagination.
Permission notes
All permission notes are distributed to parents via the School eNews app and email system (unless notes are for individual students). Please ensure you are accessing this communication regularly, so your child does not miss any events. The school sends reminders to parents via Class Dojo is a note has not been signed. Unfortunately, students are unable to attend extra-curriuclar events and excursions without parental permission.
Cold Weather
I encourage all students to wear a jumper at school during this cold weather. Students are reminded to put their jumpers in their bags once they take them off. Please ensure all jumpers are labeled with your child's name.
Lost Property
There are hundreds of dollars worth of lost property belonging to students at school, which is unnamed. This consists of clothing and drink bottles. Please ask your child to look in the lost property baskets to retrieve their items.
Updated Covid Information
The recent announcement to the changes in how schools use RATs as a surveillance measure against COVID-19 means that students and staff will only need to test if they are displaying COVID-19 symptoms. If you require more RAT kits please contact the school.
Our school will continue to ensure our core COVID-smart layers are in place, including vaccinations, physical distancing where possible, maximised fresh air flow through natural ventilation, continued good hand hygiene practices and enhanced cleaning.
If a student or staff member receives a positive RAT result, they need to:
record the positive RAT result through the Service NSW website or Service NSW app and please include the name of your child’s school when prompted
notify the school of the positive RAT or PCR result as soon as possible
follow NSW Health advice to isolate for 7 days.
Registering your child’s positive RAT with Service NSW is a requirement of the Public Health Order and helps NSW Health track COVID-19 in schools and address any public health issues early on if required.
Negative results do not need to be reported to Service NSW or to the school.
Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative and they are displaying no symptoms OR they are diagnosed as another condition such as hayfever, the student or staff member can return to school.
In NSW, positive COVID-19 cases are provided a Medical Clearance Notice after 7 days and allowed to leave self-isolation as long as they do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
For further information refer to the NSW Government’s Rapid antigen testing fact sheetExternal link.
The announcement to ease the isolation requirements for close contacts was made on 20 April 2022. This will enable students and staff who are close contacts and have no symptoms to continue to attend school if they follow guidelines agreed with NSW Health.
Note that staff and students who have had confirmed COVID-19 in the last 12 weeks do not have to comply with the following guidelines if they become a household or close contact and are not required to self-isolate or test unless they develop new COVID-19 symptoms.
Close contacts attending school will need to adhere to the following in addition to the NSW Health guidelines
They must notify the school and/or early childhood education (ECE) service provider (including their outside of school hours care provider) if they are intending to return under this provision.
They should conduct a daily RAT and return a negative result each morning before attending school for 5 school days.
They (if in a secondary school setting) must wear a mask indoors except when eating or exercising. Primary school students are recommended to wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising).
No student or staff member identified as a close contact will be permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camps.
Thank you again for your continued support during this school term.
Covid Safe Guidelines

On the 4th of August 2022 Mulwala Public School had Reading By The Lake. Due to the weather conditions we had to stay at school instead of us going to the lake. It was still as much fun and receiving our books brought a smile to everyones faces. Thank you to the P&C for organising and providing our Reading By The Lake books. We had so much fun receiving them and hope it is as exciting next year as it was this year. We hope that everyone enjoys reading their books.

On the 17 July Brodie R, Nevaeh, Remi and I went to the Yarrawonga Lions Club Junior Public Speaking local final. The Year 5 and 6 topic was lntroduce a Famous Person who lived in the 19th Century. The Year 3 and 4 topic was A Place other than in your home state, that you would like to visit.
I did Vincent Van Gogh and Brodie did Banjo Patterson. I did Vincent Van Gogh because two weeks before I went to see his artwork. There were other people doing speeches there too, from the Yarrawonga schools.
After we did our speeches we had to do an impromptu speech. Our topic was Did you like home learning during lockdown? It was very hard but after we finished our speech we had afternoon tea. It was delicious. Then they announced the winners. The winner for Year 3 and 4 was Isabel Porter and the runner up was Remi Riches. The winner form Year 5 and 6 was Spencer and myself. We got photo frames.

On the last weekend of school holidays we went to the Yarrawonga Lions Club Junior Public Speaking local final. Year 5 and 6 had to do someone from 19th century. I did Banjo Patterson and Natalie did Vincet Van Gogh. I was feeling very nervous and I'm sure Natalie was as well. After we did our speech we went to a room and we got given an easy queston. We had to write a one minute speech. The question was What did you think of remote learning? I finished just before the bell rang.

Last term our school participated in the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition. The topics for the Year 3 and 4 was Racism- no Way! And Year 5 and 6 was Welcome to Country.
We heard some great speeches from Year 3 and 4 Racism No Way! talking about how racism can affect people’s lives and to respect everyone no matter their race, colour, tradition and culture.
Welcome to Country was a bit more difficult to write about beacuse there is so many different meanings to everyone, such as protecting and learning about the Indiginous Australians, or welcoming immigrants from all over the world into Australia.
Everyone did so well and worked very hard on their speeches. Congratulations to the winners Nancy and Nevaeh for Year 3 and 4 and Isabel and Josh for Year 5 and 6.
The winners then made a video of their speech and sent it off to Sydney to be judged. Congratulations to Isabel whose speech was highly commended.

On the 27 July the Kindergarten students celebrated 100 days of learning at school. Tne students had been counting the days they had attended school since the beginning of the year, and were very excited to count down the days to their special day.
A big thank you to all the family members who came along and celebrated the day with us.
On Thursday 28 July we celebrated NAIDOC Week. We watched the smoking ceremony and we were cleansed. Then we walked across the bridge. We met with the Bpangerang people. We watched the dancers.
