Dear parents and carers
NSW Teachers Federation Industreial Action
The NSW Teachers Federation has directed its membership to take industrial action in the form of a 24-hour strike on Thursday 30 June 2022. As a result of the strike, we will still be open but will be providing minimal student supervision on this date. Minimal supervision means onsite teaching and learning continues however temporary class structures and a modified timetable are required to meet safety and supervision requirements.
The department has been negotiating with the NSW Teachers Federation since October last year to reach an agreement on the new Teachers Award.
As a department we are considering this change in relation to the Teachers Award, which is next before the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) on 29 June 2022. Dates have been reserved in October 2022 for the Teachers Award matter to be arbitrated by a full bench of the IRC, and I am hopeful for a swift outcome after this process.
Thank you for your support and understanding during this short period of disruption.

The student reports will be distributed on Friday. Parent-teacher interviews will be organised for early Term 3.

Term 2 ends on Friday 1 July. Term 3 commences for students on Tuesday 19 July. Monday 18 July is a pupil-free day. The staff will be participating in professional learning at school.

Updated Covid Information
The recent announcement to the changes in how schools use RATs as a surveillance measure against COVID-19 means that students and staff will only need to test if they are displaying COVID-19 symptoms. If you require more RAT kits please contact the school.
Our school will continue to ensure our core COVID-smart layers are in place, including vaccinations, physical distancing where possible, maximised fresh air flow through natural ventilation, continued good hand hygiene practices and enhanced cleaning.
If a student or staff member receives a positive RAT result, they need to:
record the positive RAT result through the Service NSW website or Service NSW app and please include the name of your child’s school when prompted
notify the school of the positive RAT or PCR result as soon as possible
follow NSW Health advice to isolate for 7 days.
Registering your child’s positive RAT with Service NSW is a requirement of the Public Health Order and helps NSW Health track COVID-19 in schools and address any public health issues early on if required.
Negative results do not need to be reported to Service NSW or to the school.
Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative and they are displaying no symptoms OR they are diagnosed as another condition such as hayfever, the student or staff member can return to school.
In NSW, positive COVID-19 cases are provided a Medical Clearance Notice after 7 days and allowed to leave self-isolation as long as they do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
For further information refer to the NSW Government’s Rapid antigen testing fact sheetExternal link.
The announcement to ease the isolation requirements for close contacts was made on 20 April 2022. This will enable students and staff who are close contacts and have no symptoms to continue to attend school if they follow guidelines agreed with NSW Health.
Note that staff and students who have had confirmed COVID-19 in the last 12 weeks do not have to comply with the following guidelines if they become a household or close contact and are not required to self-isolate or test unless they develop new COVID-19 symptoms.
Close contacts attending school will need to adhere to the following in addition to the NSW Health guidelines
They must notify the school and/or early childhood education (ECE) service provider (including their outside of school hours care provider) if they are intending to return under this provision.
They should conduct a daily RAT and return a negative result each morning before attending school for 5 school days.
They (if in a secondary school setting) must wear a mask indoors except when eating or exercising. Primary school students are recommended to wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising).
No student or staff member identified as a close contact will be permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camps.
Thank you again for your continued support during this school term.

This week the students in Thurgoon have been busy finishing their brochures created for the text Are We There Yet? by Alison Lester. The students have studied this text during the term, they decided which section of Australia they would like to visit and in their brochure developed subheadings of the things they would like to see and do.
On Thursday 16 June, Nancy, Scarlett and Isabel competed in the Riverina cross country at Gundagai. The girls travelled 3 hours to get to Gundagai and when they arrived it was raining. Scarlett and Nancy competed in the junior girls and Isabel in the 12-13 year girls.
On the cross country track it was wet and it would rain every 10 minutes. It rained so much that it had made the ground all slippery and there were heaps of ditches that went down and up so we had to go on the grass on the side of it. At the end our legs were covered in mud. It was a long trip home but it was worth it with Scarlett placing 23rd, Nancy 33rd and Isabel 37th.
