Dear parents and carers
Complaints, Compliments and Suggestions
We work hard to create positive environments for our school community. When we work together with our community, we set the foundations for our children to receive the best education, so that they are known, valued and cared for.
We would like you to tell us when we have done something well, so we can pass this on and try to repeat this experience for others. It is also important that our community feels comfortable to ask questions and voice concerns, and to know they will be heard when they do.
Schools are always the best place to approach in the first instance. Your child’s teacher is often a good contact to start with. If you’re unsure of who to talk to, the front office staff can help.
We know that parents are busy and may not have time to come to the school in person or contact us during working hours. That’s why we provide different ways to contact us, so that you can contact us when it suits you best. You can contact us in person, via phone or email, or Class Dojo message and we will get back to you in a timely manner. If necessary, we can set up an appointment for you to meet with someone to discuss your concerns.
We are committed to working with our community to support your needs, and we ask that in return, you support us in making our interactions positive. It’s important that school staff feel safe in our workplace. So we ask that all interactions are respectful, and focussed on solutions. Schools are busy places, so we ask for your patience if we need some time to resolve issues that may arise.
For more information on providing feedback, please ask, or see the department’s complaints, compliments and suggestions page, School Community Charter or our Tips and advice for effective complaining
P&C KiteFest
The P&C is holding the inaugural Mulwala KiteFest on Sunday 11 September from 9 am- 1 pm. Please support the P&C's major fundraising event. The P&C will require many volunteers to make this a success. Please complete the form on School eNews to indicate when you can assist.
Combined Signing Choir
We have nine students who will perform at the Primary Proms - Brindabella Concert in the Combined Schools Signing Choir. The concert is to be held at the Sydney Town Hall on Monday 19 September. This is an amazing opportunity for the students to perform in a prestigious event. They have spent many hours in their own time learning the signs. We are all very excited for them.
Malaysian Day
Malaysia is the 2022 Victorian CWA Country of study. The students will participate in various activities to learn about Malaysia on Monday 19 Septpeber. CWA members have been invited to attend.
Bringing belongings to school
We discourage students from bringing any belonging from home to school. This prevents students from becoming upset because they have lost something, or it gets broken. We have had some students trading their toys. The school has plenty of various equipment for the students to play with in their breaks
Lost Property
There are hundreds of dollars worth of lost property belonging to students at school, which is unnamed. This consists of clothing and drink bottles. Please ask your child to look in the lost property baskets to retrieve their items.
Updated Covid Information
The recent announcement to the changes in how schools use RATs as a surveillance measure against COVID-19 means that students and staff will only need to test if they are displaying COVID-19 symptoms. If you require more RAT kits please contact the school.
Our school will continue to ensure our core COVID-smart layers are in place, including vaccinations, physical distancing where possible, maximised fresh air flow through natural ventilation, continued good hand hygiene practices and enhanced cleaning.
If a student or staff member receives a positive RAT result, they need to:
record the positive RAT result through the Service NSW website or Service NSW app and please include the name of your child’s school when prompted
notify the school of the positive RAT or PCR result as soon as possible
follow NSW Health advice to isolate for 7 days.
Registering your child’s positive RAT with Service NSW is a requirement of the Public Health Order and helps NSW Health track COVID-19 in schools and address any public health issues early on if required.
Negative results do not need to be reported to Service NSW or to the school.
Any student or staff member who is unwell and/or displays symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to go home and stay until they can complete a RAT or PCR test.
If symptoms continue, they should stay at home and take another RAT in 24 hours or have a PCR test.
If the second RAT or initial PCR test result is negative and they are displaying no symptoms OR they are diagnosed as another condition such as hayfever, the student or staff member can return to school.
In NSW, positive COVID-19 cases are provided a Medical Clearance Notice after 7 days and allowed to leave self-isolation as long as they do not have COVID-19 symptoms.
For further information refer to the NSW Government’s Rapid antigen testing fact sheetExternal link.
The announcement to ease the isolation requirements for close contacts was made on 20 April 2022. This will enable students and staff who are close contacts and have no symptoms to continue to attend school if they follow guidelines agreed with NSW Health.
Note that staff and students who have had confirmed COVID-19 in the last 12 weeks do not have to comply with the following guidelines if they become a household or close contact and are not required to self-isolate or test unless they develop new COVID-19 symptoms.
Close contacts attending school will need to adhere to the following in addition to the NSW Health guidelines
They must notify the school and/or early childhood education (ECE) service provider (including their outside of school hours care provider) if they are intending to return under this provision.
They should conduct a daily RAT and return a negative result each morning before attending school for 5 school days.
They (if in a secondary school setting) must wear a mask indoors except when eating or exercising. Primary school students are recommended to wear a mask indoors (except when eating or exercising).
No student or staff member identified as a close contact will be permitted to participate in overnight excursions, including school camps.
Thank you again for your continued support during this school term.

In Measurement and Geometry this week, students created maps of islands. They learned how to use grid references and legends to describe locations.
In English students learned about the base word ‘struct’, which means to build. Students practiced writing words with ‘struct’ by adding prefixes and suffixes. They then wrote sentences containing these words and illustrated them.
Book week was on 25 August. We dressed up as our favourite book characters. We had a parade with all the Mulwala preschool students. I think they had as much fun as we did. There were some wonderful costumes like Cruella De-vil, Harry Potter, Shark man and Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Everyone had a wonderful time dressing up as their favourite characters. On the 29 August Zali, Milla, Ruby H and Nancy went to the Riverina athletics carnival. The relay team came 5th in our heat and 11th overall which is an amazing achievement because for Zali, Milla and Ruby it was their first time going to Riverina in anything. Nancy competed in 100m, 200m, high jump, long jump and discus and she made it on to the state carnival in three of them; discus, long jump and high jump. She came 1st in discus and long jump and 2nd in high jump. She will be going to State in October which is in Sydney. All of the girls are very proud of what they achieved on the day.
