Overview
Q-Tip is a phrase that is introduced to a community of learners.
It stands for Quit Taking It Personally.
It is used as a phrase for students to share with each other or to use as a self talk strategy.
Core Components
Used as a personal (adult) mantra
Acts as a reminder for separating the student from the behavior they are exhibiting
Can be used with an accountability partner
Proactive Implementation
Proactively implementing the QTIP philosophy or mantra may be introduced to the class at the beginning of the year. QTIP is meant to be a reminder to not take things personally. Building value and trust for its use means it should be practiced and become a common catch phrase.
Responsive Implementation
Responsively implementing QTIP may stem from misguided beliefs that others are targeting or intentionally hurting each other. A discussion and realization that opportunities for feedback whether that be emotional, academic, or behavioral are well intended in necessary.
Connection
If the need is connection then students may treat this as a common catchphrase for all in the environment.
Skills Training
If the need is skill building then students should utilize specifically when any form of feedback is given.
Awareness
If the need is awareness then the phrase may be used to bring to light personal body scans.
Emotional Regulation
If the need is regulation then students may use the phrase and accompany it with a coping break/skill.
