Overview
Allow students to take off shoes at their desk or at the door for the class period.
Expectations of where to put shoes, the optional aspect, and how to act during this timeframe must be addressed prior to starting.

Proactive Implementation
Creating and establishing expectations that allow students the freedom to remove their shoes and clearly defining the guidelines for this practice is the proactive solution. Students may self regulate.
Responsive Implementation
Responsively implementing no shoes may look like telling a particular student, group, or class to remove their shoes if they wish and allow them to reflect on how it feels or wait to process until a later time.
Connection
If the need is connection then the students may be prompted to take off their shoes/have the option to when they are working in groups.
Skills Training
If the need is skill building then they may teach other students about the benefits of taking their shoes off.
Awareness
If the need is awareness then students may complete a reflection to review how they feel when they use this intervention.
Emotional Regulation
If the need is regulation then students may be cued or self choosing when to implement this strategy as a regulation tool.
