Overview
These types of meetings are intended to address serious issues that may involve family members, law enforcement, or other outside parties.
Young offenders often don’t realize that their actions can have repercussions beyond the parties directly involved.
Organization of the high stakes conference involves contacting all participants on the purpose of the conference.
The conference is meant to remove shame barriers and co-develop an action plan on how to repair the harm that has been done.

Proactive Implementation
Establishing a culture that allows for understanding, perspective, & empathy is required before using high stakes conferencing. This building may occur with circles and conferencing.
Responsive Implementation
Responsively using high stakes conferencing stems from bringing in a trained facilitator and careful organization to support a particular student. This must be done with delicate preparation with all stakeholders involved.
Connection
If the need is connection then the student may request specific people at the conference.
Skills Training
If the need is skill building then the student may use the support system to generate a plan of action upon completion of the conference.
Awareness
If the need is awareness then the student will hear the impact of their actions on the people that they care most about.
Emotional Regulation
If the need is regulation then scheduled times within the protocol should be upheld for breaks.
