Invisibility is a function of disconneciton and dehumanization, where an individual or group's humanity and relevance are unacknowledged, ignored, and/ordiminsihed in value or importance.
Brene Brown Atlas of the Heart p. 175
Three types of invisibility
Interpersonal invisibility (between people), group invisibility, and representational invisbiility
When a group is invisible, instead of being actively discriminated against adn targeted with neative predjudices... mbembers of that group are ignored and overlooked. Invisibility may manifest as bieing passed over for promotions and recognition; not being seen as a viable friend, romantic partner, or teammmate; or being passively excluded from social situations.
Invisibility is its own form of stigmatization. Many individuals who are members of marginalized groups find themselves causght in an ever-tightening vise of two types of dehuanization- sterotyping and invisibility
