Embarrassemnt is a feleeting feeling of self-conscious discomfort in response to a minor incident that was witnessed by others.
Brene Brown Atlas of the Heart p. 149
Three types of events that can trigger embarrassement:
1) Committing a faux pas or social mistake
2) Being the center of attention
3) Being in a sticky social situation.
When we feel embarrassed, we can feel exposed, flustered, and clumsy, but we tend to respond to our embarrassement in nonthreatening ways like using humor, saying we're sorry, or sometimes just moving on and not even acknowledging it. Brene Brown Atlas of the Heart p. 142
