Using kudos...
Gives structure for celebrating others
Promotes community
Forces thought of impact
Supplies recognition
Overview
This is a staff or student strategy.
Create a format for staff members to recognize one another and their hard work on a regular basis.
A hallway bulletin board is a nice place to house these shout-outs and support the concept of the staff as a team.
The Kudos should include the staff member name that's giving the compliment or kudos, the compliment or kudos, and the name of the staff member receiving the kudos.
Core Components
Done consistently
Ground rules communicated clearly
Make it your own!
Goal is to celebrate each other
Proactive Implementation
Proactively establishing Kudos requires clearly defining and operationizing values. Staff or students need to be invested and fully understand how Kudos are earned/shared. This work must be done upfront.
Responsive Implementation
Responsively implementing Kudos typically results from a desire to increase comradery and a sense of belonging. This may look like starting with a common meeting time and sharing Kudos from the supervising adult to the group, building up the technique.
Connection
If the need is connection then Kudos may be promoted or a goal set to give at least a certain amount of Kudos as a group.
Skills Training
If the need is skill building then Kudos may be given directly for specific skills.
Awareness
If the need is awareness then the Kudos should be shared out loud with specifics.
Emotional Regulation
If the need is regulation then Kudos may be given to the receiver, saved and, reflected on when dysregulated.
