Useful Media Player Applications
Introduction
Here are some Media Player applications (and web browser add-ons) I have found useful. See also: Audio Applications, Programs, Operating Systems, Software.
Media Player Applications
This page covers audio player, video player, animation, online radio, online TV, podcast player and streaming software. Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave Player are meant for websites to allow you to see movies, animations and play games. Adobe Media Player allows you to watch and listen to television shows, movies and podcasts online and offline. Adobe SVG Viewer uses Scalable Vector Graphics, which is based on XML and is used for two-dimensional visual content on web sites. DivX (for Mac) is a video player. DivX Plus Web Player is a browser plugin (smaller CPU burden when video card is also used). Microsoft Silverlight is a browser plug-in. With ProjectX you can convert digital television programs into M2P files, so you can watch TV programs with your computer (for example with Miro, VLC media player, Windows Media Player or InterVideo WinDVD Player, which isn't free). iTunes, Miro, RealPlayer, VLC media player, Winamp and Windows Media Player are media players. With iTunes, Winamp and Windows Media Player you can listen to netradio stations. With iTunes you can download audio and video podcasts for your iPod or iPhone (if you have one and it supports transferring and playing audio and video). Miro (formerly Democracy Player) has a built-in BitTorrent client and you can download YouTube files (and then maybe import them to iTunes and then transfer to your iPod).
