Networking Devices

Introduction

Here are some network devices (modem, router, switch, splitter, filter, etc.) I have used. See also: Networking Device Settings, Mobile Sticks, Internet Service Provider Settings, Cables and Adapters.

Gigabit Ethernet. 1000BASE-T or IEEE 802.3ab are standards for Gigabit Ethernet over copper wiring. Use cables CAT5 or CAT6.

ASUS DSL-N55U Dual-Band Wireless-N600 ADSL2+

Description: modem/router. LAN and wireless.

Comment: works better than the ZyXEL modems when I have a bad connection.

Buffalo WZR2-G300N - AirStation Wireless-N Nfiniti

Description: router (no RJ11) with Access Point functionality. LAN and wireless. IPv4.

D-Link DES-1005D: 10/100 Fast Ethernet Switch

Description: switch (no RJ11, no RJ45). Five 10/100 Mbps ports.

Color: silver/gray. White "10/100 Fast Ethernet Switch" text on orange background label.

Auto-sensing: "These intelligent ports detect the network speed and auto-negotiate between 100BASE-TX and 10BASE-T, as well as between full- and half-duplex."

Flow control for secure transmission: "All ports support 802.3x flow control."

Description: router (no RJ11) for mobile USB modem (Finnish name: mokkulareititin). IPv4.

WLAN: 802.11b (11 Mbps), 802.11g (54 Mbps), 802.11n (300 Mbps).

Description: ADSL splitter.

TeleWell TW-EA501 (older)

Description: ADSL2+ router (no RJ11). LAN and wireless. IPv4.

24 Mbps / 3.5 Mbps.

TeleWell TW-EAV510 v2 (newer)

Description: ADSL2+ / VDSL2 modem. LAN and wireless.

1 port: 10/100/1000 Mbps.

3 ports: 10/100 Mbps.

Description: ADSL2+ modem (RJ11).

Connectivity: LAN only (one Ethernet port).

IP protocols: IPv4.

Download/upload: 24 Mbps / 3.5 Mbps.

ZyXEL P-2812HNU-F1 (newer)

Comment: uses Mini HTTPD (mini_httpd) software by Jef Poskanzer from ACME Laboratories.

Description: Integrated Access Device (IAD): this device is a modem and a router, and you can also make VoIP calls with traditional analog telephones connected to this device.

Connectivity: LAN, wireless.

IP protocols: IPv4, IPv6.

Features: DHCP. NAT. IGMP Proxy, used with IPTV. QoS. Firewall. VoIP: SIP2, RTCP, RTP, SDP.

File sharing: Server Message Block (SMB), used by Windows File Sharing.

Digital signal transmission protocols: VDSL2, VDSL, ADSL2+, ADSL.

ADSL2+: "24/1 Mbps ADSL2+, ADSL2, ADSL connection in ATM mode".

VDSL2: "100/50 Mbps in PTM mode".

DSL port: RJ11 (6p2c) over POTS (Annex A) [when using as modem].

Phone port: two FXS POTS ports, RJ11 (4p2c) [for phone calls].

USB port: two USB 2.0 ports for file sharing, printer server and 3G WAN backup.
