Browser Add-On Settings
Introduction
Here are some of my web browser add-on preferences including tips. See also: Useful Browser Add-Ons, Interesting Browser Add-Ons, Browser Settings, Java Settings (plugin settings also), Browser Games Requirements (e.g. Facebook used Adobe Flash in 2011), Application Settings, Website Settings.
Clear web browser history and cache, in general
Clearing order
Clear SeaMonkey first, because it (fixed in SeaMonkey 2.23 possibly) seems to break Adobe Flash on other web browsers (OS X 10.8), especially YouTube.
After clearing history and cache
(1) go to www.google.com/ncr
(2) go to http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.html and check the settings (see Flash settings below)
Disable Browser Plugins in Web Browsers
Disable the Adobe Shockwave plug-in in Safari after installing the Adobe Shockwave Player in OS X. If you disable the plug-in in Firefox, then Adobe Flash stops working.
Disable the Adobe Shockwave for Director plug-in in all browsers after installing the Adobe Shockwave Player.
Disable the Acrobat NPAPI (Adobe Acrobat Reader) plug-in in all browsers after installing Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Disable the DivX plug-in in all browsers after installing the DivX Player (OS X).
Disable the Google Earth plug-in in all browsers after installing Google Earth.
Disable the Java plug-in in all browsers after installing Java (SE, JDK, SDK, NetBeans).
Disable the Picasa (Google) plug-in in all browsers after installing Picasa.
Disable the SharePoint (Microsoft Office) plug-in in all browsers after installing Microsoft Office.
You can enable these plugins later if you need them.
Uninstall Browser Plugins in Web Browsers (2016)
There should be no need for Adobe Flash or Adobe Shockwave Flash in 2016, so you should not be needing them anymore. Of course it depends, what you are doing with your computer.
Uninstall the Adobe Flash plug-in.
Uninstall the Adobe Shockwave for Director plug-in.
AdBlock 3.x (Google Chrome, Safari)
Note: when using Safari do not use rule "@@||google.com^$document" because you will see ads for example on Google Reader.
Problems With Exception Rules
Exception rules for allowing ads broke in AdBlock 3.0.8 in Google Chrome 51 (OS X 10.11) in July 2016.
All my exception rules for allowing ads vanished in AdBlock 3.1 and they still do in AdBlock 3.10.0 in Google Chrome 57 (OS X 10.11) in April 2017.
Exception rules are now in chronological order in AdBlock 3.30 in Google Chrome 66 (OS X 10.11) in June 2018.

Adobe Flash Player: Update (OS X 10.7-10.11)
Every time you have updated Adobe Flash you may want to clear cache and all other search history in all your browsers as there is too much hard disk activity otherwise when usin Mac Pro 8-Core.

Comment: in theory these are global settings, but check every browser individually (after browser reset or Flash Player reset).
Comment: it really speeds up Mac start/restart by avoiding saving info with Adobe Flash, but some services work better when they can save settings (April 2012).

Comment: Flash slows down my Mac computer, but after browser reset it works faster, so I want to avoid storing anything.
Specify the amount of disk space that websites you haven't visited can use to store information on your computer.
( ) None (if set to "None", you will be asked unless you use the "Never ask again" setting)
(*) 100 KB (lately, since about 3/2013 I have been using this instead of "None" to avoid some problems with websites) (I tried 1 MB but websites use about 1-4 KB)

Protected Content Playback Settings panel
Flash Player saves license files and components that allow this computer to play protected video and audio, such as purchased movies or music.

Peer-Assisted Networking panel
Some websites may use the peer assisted networking features (...) View, change or disable these settings for the websites you have visited.
Example: www.hbo.com (for online versions of TV series, 6/2012).
