Reset Google Chrome Sync

Introduction

Here is how I reset the Google Chrome Sync settings. Sometimes I get duplicate bookmarks or other problems, so I need to reset everything in that case. See also: Browser Settings, Browser Add-On Settings.

Problems

Reason

- the problem is with the Samsung phone

- or maybe I wasn't syncing at the moment

- use Samsung phone to add bookmarks (see later below)

Remove all content from Chrome Sync

- https://www.google.com/settings/chrome/sync

- Reset sync

After deleting all content from all browsers

- with Android device with Internet disabled

- open Google Chrome

- type in the URL for your favorite bookmarks

- press "Go" to try to go to the page

- press the Star symbol to save to bookmarks

- give a short and descriptive name

- save bookmark

With all Android Devices with Internet disabled

- Settings, Sign in to Chrome

Add to Mobile Bookmarks

- you need to sign in to Chrome Sync first

- you can edit the bookmarks after adding them

- add these to Mobile Bookmarks

- https://www.google.com/ncr

- Frequently Used Pages (FUP)

After adding favorite bookmarks

- with Android device

- Settings, Sign in to Chrome

- Settings, Tomi Häsä, tomi.hasa@gmail.com

- Sync: Bookmarks (only)

Android Device, Settings, Accounts, Google

- App Data: on

- Chrome: on

If you make a mistake and reset Google sync

- remove all content from Chrome Sync again

- remove bookmarks from every computer's Chrome

- remove the bookmarks from the Android device

- add the bookmarks again

- restart Chrome on PCs and bookmarks should appear

Sign in with Chrome

- with every browser you need to sign in to Google

- with every browser you need to sign in to Chrome Sync

- iOS: Chrome, Settings, Sign in to Chrome

Extra: sign in to your other favorite websites

- Facebook, Twitter, Stack Overflow

- Disqus, Delicious, LinkedIn

Google Chrome (Android 6, tablet)

Disable Internet

Modem/router: off

Settings, Wi-Fi: Off

Clear app data from device settings

Settings, Apps, Chrome

- Storage: Clear Data

- Storage: Clear Cache

Menu, Bookmarks

- Mobile bookmarks: remove all

Menu, Settings, Autofill forms: Off

Menu, Settings, Save passwords: Off

Menu, Settings, Privacy

- Prefetch page resources: Only on Wi-Fi

- Usage and crash reports: Never send

- Clear browsing data: all

Menu, Settings, Site settings

- Language: Google Translate: Off

- Location: Ask first

- Pop-ups: Blocked

Menu, Settings, Data Saver: Off

Google Chrome (iOS7)

Disable Internet

Modem/router: off

Settings, Airplane Mode: On

Try to clear app data from device settings

Settings, General, Storage & iClod Usage, Manage Storage, Chrome, Documents & Data (nothing to delete)

- Mobile Bookmarks: remove all

- Desktop Bookmarks: remove all

- Other Bookmarks: remove all

- Choose what to sync: nothing (Bookmarks)

- Encrypt synced passwords with your Google credentials

- Continue where you left off: on
