Application Installation Settings

Introduction

Here are some of my application installation settings. The main idea is to install only necessary features/add-ons I need, so it will be easier to use slow computers, such as laptops. Also, it's usually easier for example to choose not to install a toolbar than trying to uninstall it later. AIM 7.5 (Windows)

Additional options

Internet Explorer 8 (Windows XP)

If you have a previous version of IE go to Microsoft Update website and select IE8:

Install IE8, restart Windows and open IE8

Choose a default search provider:

Choose your accelerators:

(*) Turn off all Accelerators that are included with Internet Explorer

SmartScreen Filter: (see also IE settings for Trusted Sites)

(*) Turn off SmartScreen Filter (I can use Google Search to decide whether a website is a bad website)

Do you want to use Compatibility View updates?

(*) Yes, I want to use updates

Note to myself: after IE8 installation check the Trusted Sites settings.

Internet Explorer 9 (Windows 7)

Note: Microsoft prefers their own search engine (named Bing in 2011) over other search engines, so search for "Google search provider" to install Google as the main search provider.
