Driver Installation Settings

Introduction

Here are some of my driver installation settings. Usually driver installation discs also contain applications, so I'm mentioning them too. See also: Driver Installation Times, Operating System Installation Settings, Program Installation Settings, My computers, Software.

Wings desktop

Do Not Insert to Motherboard Yet

Do not insert D-Link DGE-528T and Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro into motherboard yet.

User Account Control

In Windows 7 turn off User Account Control from Control Panel: Action Center. It can cause problems when installing drivers and other software.

Screen Resolution

Increase the screen resolution setting to help seeing more easily.

Internet Explorer

Start Internet Explorer at least once before installing drivers, because IE will ask some questions about settings.

Allow pop-ups in Internet Explorer.

D-Link DGE-528T

Comment: so you can update Avira Antivirus and CyberLink while installing them.

[ ] D-Link Diagnostics Utility (can't be installed on Windows 7, download version 7.x from D-Link website, the download includes the driver and the utility)

Adobe Flash

Install Adobe Flash first. It will be more probable not the get an older version of Flash messing things up.

Google Chrome

Install Google Chrome first. Google Chrome will crash if CyberLink YouCam (from LG Super Multi Blue installation disc) and maybe other CyberLink software has been installed before Chrome.

[x] VIA Audio Driver (needed after re-installing Windows: VIA HD Audio UAA Driver, installs HD VDeck, VIA icon appears in Windows Sound setting)

[ ] ASUS TurboV (overclocking)

[ ] ASUS Turbo Key (turn the PC powerbutton into an overclocking button)

[ ] ASUS EPU-4 Engine

- installs FourEngine.exe

- may reset ASUS BIOS settings

- Windows software looks for VGA card but I have DVI/HDMI/Display Port card

- power saving = less fan speeds = in theory less noise

- actually makes my PC noisier in Windows 7 with Auto setting and with any setting I hear a high pitch noise from the mother board

- fan speed changes are annoying
